Distance walkers, I've got a question.
I've been on a routine for about two months now of walking 3-4 miles a day, but for some reason the soles of my feet aren't getting used to it. I'm still getting blisters on the balls of my feet when I push myself. Shouldn't they be toughening up? Is there a reason for this? Is there anything I can do about it?

1. What socks are you wearing?
Wear wool. Also, check your shoes.

2. It's either your shoes, socks or both.
Go to a runners store that specializes in shoe fit. They will help you find the right stuff.

I walk a similar amount to you and the only blisters I've ever gotten have been due to bad, or ill-fitting socks. Fail that, upgrade your shoes as they may not be fitting properly.

If that doesn't give you any relief, you may want to consider a visit to the doc to have your feet checked out.

4. I seem to remember a story about the legendary coach John Wooden
about how one of the first lessons he'd teach his new freshman was how to put their socks on correctly to avoid blisters etc.
