Recent movies that fizzled badly (ah, such high hopes for this lot)
EXTRACT $10,789,169 /33 days by Mike Judge; a funny movie I went to see, but the public thought otherwise.

WHITEOUT $10,086,498 /26 days staring (yum) Kate Beckinsale. Blacked out and forgotten by the public

GAMER $20,511,119 /33 days; Gerard Butler, Amber Valletta, Michael C. Hall I guess the crowd wasn't pleased at the replay value

9 $29,637,583 /28 days; great promise, no one really cares

JENNIFER'S BODY $14,968,288 /19 even Megan Fox can't save this clunker

PANDORUM $8,291,406 /12 days it will be gone by the weekend after this one.

Oh well.

1. I thought you were talking about movies that looked good from the trailer,
and it turned out that all the good scenes were in the trailer.

2. Mike Judge makes cerebral comedies with great acting, not a summertime movie for sure

3. After seeing a clip showing how the accident in the plant began,
I thought Mike Judge must have made a documentary. I swear I've worked with those people!

4. I swear to Christ I knom about a 1000 of those bitchy middle aged appalachian women
And everyone one of them is as infuriating as the next.

6. Which raises the question of whether you and I have witnessed
a particular cultural phenomenon or something universal in human nature!

9. There's good reasons for almost all of them failing.
Extract - Not as cerebral as all of Judges other movies. Judge has an amazing talent for capturing the zeitgeist and turning it into comedy gold. This one just seemed like he was trying to write a comedy.

Whiteout - Kate Beckinsale is amazingly hot, but she is not a box office draw. Even if she was, she couldn't draw people into watching a movie about a murder investigation in the Antarctic.

Gamer - Movies about gaming never draw anyone in. People that aren't into gaming won't watch it. Gamers would only talk shit about it.

9 - Too adult for kids, too much of a cartoon for adults.

Jennifer's Body - That was a studios gift to Diablo Cody. That, and they wanted to try to capitalize on Megan Fox being hot and see what kind of draw she is on her own. Hopefully, no studio makes that mistake again.

Pandorum - Just looked like it would suck.

10. I was a bit curious about Gamer and Pandorum
But only curious enough to stick them at the bottom of my Netflix queue...

12. I actually saw Gamer and 9

9 was okay, but another poster really nailed it: too adult for kids, too cartoony for adults. Plotwise, it was too juvenile and simplistic, but the subject matter was too mature for kids under 10. It's too bad, because it was a very aesthetically arresting film.

Gamer just sucked. Maybe worth a Netflix viewing when it's on DVD, if you want a weirdly bizarre pseudo-comic over-the-top schlockfest.
