Huge spider outside my bedroom window!
Can't take a picture because it's too dark, but he has built an enormous web and he's looking at me! :scared:

9. It mignht be a female.
And have babies, lots of babies.

I have lots of spiders in the norfork pines in the backyard.

Look for a eggsack.

It is fun to watch a spider make a web, they work very hard.

14. I thought all web weaving spiders were females...
They have gentlemen callers, breed, and then produce babies.
And I am given to understand they eat the gentlemen callers when they're had their way with them.
Of course, I could be wrong.
Charlotte's Web doesn't go into those details.

38. That's the usual way of things among many spiders in mating season...but...
Smart orb-weaver males will present the female with a wrapped-up insect to occupy her jaws, and can often escape!

I hope you'll take a photo of it when it's light outside. I'd love to see it. I'm betting it's one of the orb weavers. My it catch and eat lots of flies and other nasty bugs!

Wait until morning to do anything with it. Use a broom and sweep the web away.

It's on a second-story window in a condo. We don't have a ladder around here tall enough to get to it form the outside, and I can't open the window. It's creepy-looking! :scared:

13. Must be a good place to catch bugs in its web.
On the farm we had a really big spider and web on the front porch.

The spider never hurt anybody but other bugs.

15. "I can't open the window." This is good.
That spider can never get to you then. Remember, SPIDERS CAN'T BREAK GLASS! This isn't a horror movie, that spider is not out to get you. It's just there. It won't hurt any thing.

"It's creepy-looking." It LOOKS creepy, but it can not harm you. Please don't worry about it, okay?

They don't make webs, which makes them A-OK in my book.

I am scared of spider webs. I like the spiders...the *webs* are terrifying!

I know. The spiders seem to get really active building webs off rooflines in front of windows in the fall.
We have one in the living room window--right next to the TV where I watched The Mist on HBO for the first
time last week.

40. The spiders here are unionizing...
Something is up with this set of communal orb-weavers I saw a few days ago: there were several females (at least four) occupying a sort of compound web made of five webs woven together--so that the borders were indistinct; the webs actually all connected!--as well as TWO MALES in the same web-complex! These were the same variety of orbies who are all over at this time of year and are ordinarily solitary.

I have never seen this behavior before among this species. And I notice spiders, and webs, and have lived in this part of the country most of the time since 1993.
