"vanity, thy name is woman" which is attributed to Shakespeare. Incorrectly, it turns out. The first word in the quote _should_ be "frailty."
But the misquote is what has passed into popular cultural "knowledge." Vanity = female.
My point is that, fairly or unfairly, our society has accepted that these cosmetic issues are essentially a feminine trait. And one that, in women, is quite acceptable. Further, this false logical construct drives an equally false result that bald guys who try to do something about their baldness are unacceptably vain.
FWIW, I'm a bald guy who goes back and forth between shaving his whole head (generally in the hot summer months here in Florida), and embracing the monk / samurai look of bald on top, hair on the sides of the head, during the winter months. And I don't really give a shit - love me, hate me, as far as I'm concerned it doesn't have a damned thing to do with hair on the top of my head. And, it turns out, there are more than enough women in the world who either don't care, or who actually like bald. It has never negatively impacted my social life. I doubt that it ever will. And I am absolutely certain that it never impacted my professional life.
Frankly, I believe that mature males with a full head of hair are less evolved. But that is a personal opinion.
On edit - a cat managed to walk on the keyboard and somehow the post button got hit before I could proof and correct. I ask you, how butch is that?
