1. Now why would anybody every want to live in a place like 'that'?
Check out the design of the new bandshell/pavillion that will open in Millenium Park this Summer.

The Bandshell is located approximately in front of the building that appears to have a diamond pattern of lights at the top. It's gonna be pretty cool.

3. Not as groundbreaking as the Greek Theater.
But what do you expect? We're just a bunch of hicks from the Midwest. ;)

4. Frankly
I don't like the design for Millenium Park at all. It's just a bunch of disjointed pieces and while all interesting in their own terms, none of them work together in any sort of cohesive fashion.

However, I will say the bandshell does look better than what they did to Soldier Field.

Here's an interactive map for the project.

5. That Shape Is Supposed To Have. . .
. . .unique acoustic properties, too. It has to do with both the shape of the twisties and the material from which it's made. It's designed specifically to improve the sound projection in an open air environment. It's never been tested for real, only a supercompters. I think that's pretty cool, too.

13. My kinda town
Thanks for the purty picture.

I know this isn't the view from the Drive, but I love this song:

There's a road I'd like to tell you 'bout, lives in my hometown
Lake Shore Drive, the road is called, and it'll take you up or down,
From rags on up to riches, fifteen minutes you can fly
Pretty blue lights along the way help you right on by
And the blue lights shinin' with a heavenly grace help you right on by.

And there ain't no road just like it,
Anywhere I found
Running south on Lake Shore Drive, heading into town
Just slippin' on by on LSD, Friday night trouble bound

It starts up north on Hollywood, water on the driving side
Concrete mountains rearing up, throwing shadows just about five
Sometimes you can smell the green if your mind is feelin' fine
There ain't no finer place to be than running Lake Shore Drive
And there's no peace of mind or place you see than riding on Lake Shore Drive

And there ain't no road just like it,
Anywhere I found
Running south on Lake Shore Drive, heading into town
Just slippin' on by on LSD, Friday night trouble bound

And it's Friday night and you're looking clean
Too early to start the rounds
A ten-minute drive from the Gold Coast back makes sure you're pleasure-bound
And it's four o'clock in the morning and all the people have gone away
Just you and your mind and Lake Shore Drive and tomorrow is another day
And the sunshine's fine in the morning time, tomorrow is another day

And there ain't no road just like it,
Anywhere I found
Running south on Lake Shore Drive, heading into town
Just slippin' on by on LSD, Friday night trouble bound

He's a fixture in Berwyn/Cicero, though. How do you know about Houby day???????

on edit: Since you know Houby, do you perchance know Rosin Eyecare?

20. Kind of
I spent 10 years with a guy who grew up right around Austin and Cermark, so I got to know Cicero pretty well, and have partaken of the houby, and found it to be good. :D I remember seeing Rosins but I never went in. I remember Panczer's Stationery, though, and Mother's Day Restaurant, and the world's biggest laundromat.

18. One of the great corniche drives of the world..
...its like Rio on Lake Michigan. Or some glamorous foreign city...the art deco bridges and fast traffic..beaches on one side, fancy apartments & condos on the other (or a park)...and the John Hancock and the other Michigan Ave skyscrapers getting closer & closer...

19. Your Chicago neighborhood?
I dont live there anymore, but I grew up in Cragin, AKA "Belmont-Cragin".

http://www.chicagotribune.com/classified/realestate/communities/chi-profile-69890.story

"f a contest were ever held to name the quintessential Chicago neighborhood, voters would be hard pressed to choose a more worthy candidate than Belmont Cragin."

..and heres a great story from the Chicago Reporter that even mentions my old parish..St Stans B&M!
http://chicagoreporter.com/2003/5-2003/bc/bc1.htm

Man, this was a great place to grow up...you can take the kid out of the city but you cant take the city out of the kid.
