Jews may touched in a positive way for Mel. Im just feeling a little kinder toward Mel since he totally dissed Bush's Iraq lies in a major national interview thw other day. One thing is for certain, controversy has proven to be big $$$$ so if there is religious controversy, Mel will make the film. I hope he makes one about some really ancient religions, from an enlightened lets not burn the witches kind of way. That would be cool.

(that he's doing it to prove he's not anti-Semitic.) But in so doing, he will at least prove that he's an ignorant f*ck. Chanukah isn't even a very major holiday for Jews. If he knew shit-all about Judaism he'd make a film about Yom Kippur or Rosh ha-Shana -- I'm not Jewish, yet I know this. Why doesn't somebody who's going to make a film about it?

11. I Think it Would be a Good Fit for Mel Gibson

A movie about the Maccabees would be an eye-opener to a lot of people. It would generate controversy and discussion, which I think is generally a good thing.

Maccabean history was suppressed in the 1st centuries BC and AD to conciliate the Romans. That's why Maccabees 1 and 2 are in the Greek bible (the Septuagint), but were removed from the more recent Hebrew Bible (1st Century AD), which was defined by the Pharisees, who collaborated with the Romans.

From a political point of view, depicting a successful Jewish uprising against foreign military occupation would be inspiring. It could feed the hopes of subject people around the world. Don't know if that's what Mel wants. :)

I just don't get him.

He annoys me. The best film from him (in my opinion) didn't even star him. Joe Dirt (which, in a way, is "The Redneck Wizard of Oz" - I swear he threw in the "Dorothy waking up" scene as giving the obvious clue).

Okay, I thought "Happy Gilmore" was okay.

(On a side note, I noticed that Okay is not valid in DU's spellchecker. What gives?)
