I need the help of the DU mechanics/car gurus out there...
I have a 2001 GMC Sonoma and the front driver's side window won't go up or down when the temperature hits 70 or so. I push on the button for it to go down and all it does is make this ticking noise. We've had a few cooler days here this summer and when I've tried to open the window on those days it works just fine! And when the winter time comes and I hit the subzero temps it works perfectly and is never an issue! Does anyone have an idea what this might be?!? Thanks! :hi:
1. Inside the electric motor that runs the window,
There are little plastic gears. I would say yours are about half way worn out, and when the temp changes they expand and contract when they are contracted the gears don't mesh. You can replace the motor fairly easily and I think you can get it at any parts store or you can take it apart and change the gears. It is probably rivited into the door and will have to be drilled out. Good luck.
2. It's a pain in the ass, I changed one on the S-10 I used to have..
rivited in, I used a dremel with a cutting blade to remove the heads of the old rivits, and bent some of the inner door frame to make it easier to get the motor+track out...not a job for weak of heart :)
Auto shops charge 300+ for the job, I think I paid around $30-35 for the motor...
