Truth be told, I wanted to reach out to him. I know, silly of me to even think to attempt such a fools errand. Try to understand this about me my fellow DUer: I am embarrassed and ashamed that all too many of our fellow Americans are living a similar lie to what this Birdman-68 is living. It is a paradigm of fear and hate, both I think, bred out of ignorance. In a way, it could be argued that we all share a part in their ignorance. If that be the case than how can we pretend to be any wiser? My own fears are that this ignorance can lead to no good for all of us. Recent history supples ample proof to my fears. Deep down, I keep feeling that there has to be a better way.

Oh well it's late and I'm wound up still from a difficult DU discussion on a different topic-a discussion I'd have preferred to have avoided but it didn't work out that way. My luck huh? I look forward to any wisdom you might supply regarding our friend Mr. Birdman-68 and those like him. I thought that your recommendations to him were very good btw.

But I also know that more often than not, it's a fool's errand. So may times, they don't want intelligent debate, they just get a kick out of being rabble rousers. Look at the townhall meetings for plenty of examples.

It's likely true that we see mainly the kids posting here and treating each post as a badge of honor to be bragged about to their chums. The DU mods have a good sense about this, never letting them get too far with their games. It is likely birdman-68 was one of those kids too. That said, kids eventually grow up. It is my hopes to catch some of them in transition, before they become full blown freepers.

Hell, if it were up to me, I could see a special forum made available over here for freepers who are not yet tomb-stoned but restricted away from the rest of the DU. It would be a place where civil debates could be moderated and held. Keeping things civil means we could proceed to educate each other without all the shouting and name calling.

The bottom line for me, we are a nation divided, being divided hurts We The People's abilities to force through what we ALL agree are needed changes. We just can't agree to what those changes should be. Another-words both sides of the political spectrum are well aware that this nation is struggling currently, we understand that SOMETHING needs to be done about it, yet divided as we invariably sabotage each others attempts at change. If we were unified after straight forward discussion, things could imo get done easier.

This is why I reach out like I did with Birdman-68. He wasn't the first and likely won't be the last one I try reaching out too. Eventually I may get lucky...and truth be told, that's a whole new great big unknown that I'd be stepping off into but deep inside me I feel it to be the correct path.

and coincidentally, they are all rightwing/freeper types. I wish I were joking, but they seriously get a kick out of just being disruptive and trying to make people feel and/or look bad.

In short, just because they act like they are 12 doesn't mean they are.
