1. Are you referring to an
"I love you like a brother," rejection from a female who is uninterested in your romantic inquiries? There's a woman I know who thinks of me the same way she thinks of her younger brother.

2. It's my fault. I've been at her side for 4 years. I have been like a brother...
And it's no wonder that she thinks of me like one. I just don't have the balls to risk anything. So I keep quiet.

She just has no fucking clue. None.

3. Yeah, that's a tough one
If she rejects you, you may also lose a friend. On the other hand, if you say nothing you will always be disappointed when you are around her. Also, you will probably always be very jealous of any boyfriends she may have.

I'd look at it this way. Your motives will probably become apparent anyway at some point.

4. Just to add spice to the situation: Her old boyfriend is a good friend of mine.

That was a long two years. And, yes, I get extremely jealous.

And I'm pretty sure that my desires are becoming increasingly obvious to those around us. It's pretty fucking obvious when I wake up at 8 AM on a saturday to go volunteer with her.

Apparently it isn't. Or maybe she is ignoring it and, in turn, rejecting me. Who the hell knows.

8. But you presume
she is attracted to you in a deeper way than just being friends. She is not and as with many things biological, she has very little choice in that. She either sees you as someone she's attracted to or she doesn't. She probably knew her deeper feelings about you 5 minutes after meeting. It doesn't mean she's been playing you, your feelings have clouded your ability to distinguish this.
It's ok. Like the old Motown song says; "My mama told me, you better shop around" :)

Is it possible?

7. "You don't ask, you don't get."
I have found that that particular saying has served me well.

I had a relationship like that. We were close friends, he asked me out on a date. I accepted, after he said he wanted to remain friends above all else.

So, we dated. And we realized that we had no sexual chemistry.

We've remained friends, and few of our mutual friends and acquaintances even recall that we ever dated.

10. Same here.. I had a "best friend" guy for all of junior high and high school
and my mother was always saying.. "Why can't you find a NICE boyfriend like Phil?"

We went away to college, and after a long line of loser "steadies" for each of us we did have a date.. what a mistake.. We both knew way too much about each other, and it felt weird.. we drifted apart after that.. I think we were "attracted" to each other, but did not want to cross that line.

12. I have the EXACT opposite situation going on right now.
Edited on Sun Sep-20-09 05:03 PM by Drunken Irishman
Well maybe not fully opposite.

I was friends with this girl and it sort of transformed into a relationship. Lasted two and a half years. We just broke up. I don't really think I want to be her friend anymore, even though she really wants to be. Just too awkward. Too much drama.

13. It's worse when they alternate between "I want to f-- your brains out"...
...and "You're like a brother to me". I've had that.

... or sex. Unless they are going to hook you up with someone similar or better, cut her loose.

Edited on Sun Sep-20-09 05:49 PM by Odin2005
Though my closest friend (the one in the wheelchair) like to give me hell because I had a huge crush on her when we first met.
