Anyone else have seasonal depression?
I'm normally not the most happy camper in the world, but I really really really hate weather that's even SLIGHTLY cold, so this snowing business in late march is really upsetting me. im ready for spring already. i feel like im living on antarctica and im only in delaware.

1. Not right now.
I usually get it in July and August when it's too hot to go outside and the thought of eating anything makes me nauseous.

2. Yes. The Chinese doctors have always recognzied seasonal
maladies. There is a dry wind sickness and a wet wind sickness. Also, they have a Yin sickness and a Yang sickness. Here in this country, it is usually a "malaise" that is connected to the long, cloudy days. Personally, I think my "sickness" has to do with the lack of sunshine that causes molds and funguses to flourish. But in Texas, where we have a prevailing southerly wind, the allergists say they can't even treat all their patients when the south wind kicks up. Good luck

I love it when it's a hundred degrees. I'd much rather be sweating my ass off than wrapped up in blankets and sweaters all the damn time, like I am now. it doesn't help that i have practically no body fat either, which is probably why i'm so cold all the time.

4. When I lived in Ohio
it seemed like I was constantly freezing my ass off. I moved to Dallas and it gets chilly in the winter, but not nearly as cold. I'm with the other poster who said he/she would rather have 100 degrees than wrapped up in blankets and sweaters all the time. I know exactly what you are going through. You need to seriously consider a move south or southwest. :-)

5. I usually get it bad in February-March.

This year hasn't been so bad though. Here in Japan it's cold, but at least where I live winter is the dry season, so we've had a lot of beautiful sunny days. My moods are always worse on rainy days, and after too many in a row at any time of year, I start to get down. I don't like anything that keeps me indoors or limits my activity choices.

6. I'm depressed that winter is over.
Spring is here and that means summer is right around the corner. I hate summer and the heat. I'm a cold-weather person.

8. wow
I don't get people who like the cold weather....but I should move to the southwest, you're right.

This might sound strange, but when I moved into my new apartment, it was was November. So since I've lived here, there's been nothing but cold weather. That's almost 5 months. I just want to open a damn window in here cause as far as my brain is concerned, it's going to be cold forever, you know what I mean?

9. .
and I get depressed when football season is over too, but only cause I'm an Eagles fan and we never make it to the super bowl.

Fortunately, I hear we got a new wide receiver though :)

10. Winter is over but
Spring isn't here. I don't mind cold, bright days but this overcast, raw limbo before the green begins is the worst. It doesn't help that there are harbingers like geese, swans and robins reminding me that LIFE is coming to the world, just not yet.

It is the time of the year I find hardest to bear, the other seasons all have their own beauty. So I sleep, eat, work, sleep some more and wait for the tulips and crocuses.

13. Ooooooh yes.
Couple of recommendations:

1. Get a light therapy box. www.alaskanorthernlights.com. Use it. If you have an official diagnosis, your insurance will pay for at least part of it. If you have to pay out of pocket, it's more than worth it.

2. Get out of bed earlier and go to bed earlier. Don't know why, but it helps.

3. Exercise, preferably early in the day. Don't know why, but that helps, too.

I was ready to slit my wrists last month when we had like 18 days in a row of gray, bleak, dreary, rainy, cold, depressing SHIT. :grr: :grr: :grr:

It's a little better now. Spring is starting to show up. :7 I'll still use my light therapy box until at least the end of June, though.

15. Probably
I started getting better a couple weeks ago. In a couple more weeks, I will really start to feel good again. I usally start getting depressed somewhere in November and stay depressed until around equinox. Winter has been a down time for me since I no longer had recess anymore after finishing elementary school. I get midly to moderately depressed and I don't want to do anything. I also am tired more frequently and would probably average 12 hours per night if I didn't feel some strange obligation to stay awake.
The only year that I didn't have a bad time for winter was my first winter after college. I worked second shift until mid December and biked to work. Then I was only employed part time at a fast food restaurant but made frequent trips by city bus during the day with the bus stop being a half mile away from my house. The key for me seems to be outside activity during the day. Unfortunately, I work all day during the day now. I think that if we don't move south I'll have to buy those special lights for next winter.

16. Yup
January and February are usually depressing for me... it's getting better now that we've had at least a couple warm days.
