Because now the C-town in greenpoint, sells goat meat!

I no longer have to go to Jackson Heights (or to be more accurate, make my mother go to jackson heights)

8. Love goat curry
I used to work a short ways from a Jamaican restaurant and Thursday was goat curry lunch special. I went almost every week.
How do you fix it?

11. Even though I'm an "ignored" I gotta ask...
is it the good goat meat cuts or the stuff they sell in Caribbean neighborhoods?

I really like goat meat, but I live in a half Caribbean neighborhood, and for some reason, they sell this cubed, bony, frozen goat meat in most Caribbean neighborhoods. I found a supermarket in a more Hispanic/Guyanese/Asian neighborhood to the north of me and they sell much, much better cuts of goat meat. I don't know why they only sell crap goat meat in New York's West Indian neighborhoods.

Yours ignored, not expecting a response,

HamdenRice

13. you're not on my ignore. so i see it. its not the good stuff
its the cubed boney stuff but i think they only reason they have any goat in our neighbourhood is because of the hispanic population Its C-town, so one can only expect that much, you know.

the india/pak/bangla stores sell much better goat but you have to know what cut to ask for.

when i need the good stuff, i go to mommy dearest.

14. Thanks for answering
I love Caribbean goat stews, but I hate the cut they sell. You spend the whole meal spitting out bone fragments. Anyway, I finally found a good goat meat source.

16. At the last stop in Queens on the F, 179th St.
I don't know the name of the kind of generic supermarket, but it has good goat meat. It's a Guyanese, Hispanic and Asian neighborhood.

19. Where is Mom? And btw, have you ever been to the greatest supermarket in the world, in Queens?
Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 01:42 PM by HamdenRice
I love "Golden City Market" in Flushing on Kissena Blvd. It's basically Chinese owned, but serves all the diverse Asian communities of northern Queens, plus anyone else willing to deal with the incredibly surly Chinese butchers and fish mongers.

They have shrimp that are alive and wriggling. They have exotic organ meat (everything from pork kidneys to sweet breads). They have what Hispanics call "chicharon de cerdo," American butchers call "rib belly" and African Americans call fresh bacon. They sell what they call chicken carcasses for $1 each (that's a chicken with the legs, breast, everything removed, but the skeleton and the meat they couldn't remove) which is perfect for making stock. They have maybe 50 kinds of rice and 200 kinds of soy, fish, oyster, hoisin, and other sauces.

The big draw back is they basically only speak Chinese, but I don't feel so bad because the Japanese, Korean, Indians, Pakistanis, Guyanese, and other African American customers are as flumoxed as I am when I'm there. It's like everyone who works there is a "soup Nazi".

God, as a foodie, I love that place.

I'm glad you have a good grocery store in your neighborhood. They're often hard to find in NYC.
