On the local Los Angeles news an abandoned oil well spewed 300 gallons of oil onto a neighborhood. They don't know who owns the well. Say what? Isn't this a little bit like losing a gold mine?
Don't let the "spewing oil well" image fool you; the well was probably abandoned by its operator because it was no longer an economical proposition. Well clean-ups are expensive. Still, the state oil and gas regulatory authorities ought to be able to determine who's responsible for the well and get things squared away......
