An update from NYC
This past week has been amazing. I've fully moved into my dorm(minus a few posters that are on the way), made friends, and explored the area where I now live. I've been enjoying the company of my floormates and classmates and the amazing view from my room(particularly at sunset). I've found those who say that NYU doesn't have a "community" do not know what they're talking about(what other school has a mascot, "Housie", for residential life? no joke) and that walking 6 blocks to class isn't a bad walk at all(though my opinion may change come winter).

(With residential life mascot, "Housie")

I've broken in my new sneakers, almost broke my foot wearing heels, and finally achieved my first NYC toe blister(I'm quite proud of myself) while exploring the West Village at night with friends. At this point I couldn't be happier with my decision to attend NYU and I look forward to my first classes, which begin tomorrow.

I'll have more to write soon, but for now I'm happy and looking forward to tomorrow. Until then, enjoy the sunset.....

1. My dear Ava!
Congrats on settling in so well!

Your sunset pic is wonderful...

Six blocks? Yikes!:scared:

Enjoy your classes, and keep us updated as you can, sweetie!

2. My nephew attends NYU. He graduated in May
with a degree in Poli Sci and has returned this fall as a grad student. He lived in the dorms all four undergraduate years. Said the freshmen get the best location, and from the looks of your view, I believe it. He made lots of friends and is now a confirmed New Yorker - has no desire to return to his So Cal home.

Enjoy your college experience. It will be a lot of hard work, but the rewards will be many. Much good luck as you embark on this new chapter!

4. You look great Ava!
My granddaughter just finished her first week orientation at Marymount Manhattan college and she is loving it. She spent the last 6-years in school in Eastern Europe (her mother and father are teachers at the American International Schools) and although she had opportunities to study throughout Europe, she wanted to be in NYC. One of her roommates is also an American who went to the American International School in Austria. I looked forward to her world adventures I now await her calls or Skype on her acadamia adventures, I also am eager to hear about yours. I know your Mom must be so proud of you......she did good and I know you will also. Enjoy

5. Always remember...
New York City is truly the center of the known universe... There never has been a population center in the history of mankind like it.

I'm so happy for you... And, I'm so sad for me... I'm leaving NYC in a few weeks after living here almost 20 years.

Been thinking of you, and will continue to do so!

I've just moved a bit farther away from a city, am enjoying countryesque situation, AND look forward to visiting NYC with family in a few months.

Have a WONDERFUL time!

ps, my Dad, now 95, attended NYU Law a few years ago!
