Anybody needs me I am watching Galaxy Quest.
The first time I saw this movie was in a movie theater full of Star Trek fans.

We had a great time.

16. "Wow, the floors are so CLEAN!"
There are so many subtle lines that are easy to miss. You have to watch it several times. That one is right in the middle of an argument among the rest of the crew.

At the beginning, when they chase after Jason and get transported, they pass Guy off to the right with a girl and you hear, "But you live with your mother."

I've heard so many people say they turned it off early on and never finished it because it was so stupid. They are missing the point that it was SUPPOSED to appear stupid at the beginning. That sets it up for the combined humor and serious intensity in the end.

As far as I'm concerned, that movie is EXACTLY what SHOULD have happened to the actors from the original Star Trek series, and I'm pretty sure that is the intent of the movie.

12. It's cheap and easy to get snotty, even cruel, about Trek and Trekkers.

14. It's in my top 10. In addition to being a spoof, it has a very serious "meaning" often overlooked.
Galaxy Quest is one of those movies that works on many levels. It's of course a spoof of Star Trek, that is dead on, especially in terms of many of the inside information about the relationships between the stars. It's also just a funny science fiction/fantasy movie.

But it's easy to miss that throughout the movie, and especially toward the end, it's a wonderfully anarchic movie about story telling itself. The writers seemed intent on slipping in a meta-story, which elevates it far above spoof, comedy and science fiction.

It's kind of subtle, but the script begins to show that there are things happening that even given the premise of the movie should not be happening. The most prominent scene along these lines, is when Tim Allen and Sigorney Weaver are trying to escape through the bowels of the ship and come across the "choppers" which have no purpose in the ship's design, but only in the design of the story telling of one episode.

The writers were trying to make a point about the ability of story tellers to make their own worlds -- something that writers talk about a lot.
