3. What bugs me about St. Patrick's Day

is that, like Cinco de Mayo and New Year's Eve, it's amateurs' night out. Everybody who doesn't normally drink the rest of the year goes out and gets blotto. More people stumbling down the streets, looking for a nice quiet alley to pee or vomit, more alcohol-fuelled buffoons spoiling for a fight--you get the picture. It's like holiday air travel season for drinking.

But the absolute worst? Bagpipes. Without fail, some enterprising Guinness rep hires a bagpiper to wander from bar to bar, wailing away in the confines of a crowded saloon. It's quaint...for about fifteen seconds. Then the realization that the piper's going to do an entire song sinks in.

1. I guess I'm not a dedicated drinker, but if a bunch of idiots want to be at a bar on wednesday night it won't affect me at all.

2. One could argue that bars are mostly for amateurs in the first place. At home alone is the prefered way of the warrior. ;-) Unless the bar is cheap.
