Have fruit flies ever driven anyone to suicide before?

Because I swear I'm on the brink.

How the hell do you get rid of fruit flies? (and btw, there isn't anymore fruit in my house so why are they still here?)

1. There was a short scifi story called something like Prix the pilot, that featured

that plot. The main character was a loser, who always had bizarre things happening to him. On a training flight to the moon, a fly caused all sorts of problems, and eventually short-circuited some critical component by electrocuting itself between two wires. He was able to deal with this, because it was just another routine day in his life.

On the other hand, when it turned out this was all a test, the Mr. perfect type who never had these things happen to him crashed into the moon...

3. some tips

Fruit flies don't just like fruit, they feed and breed in any moist organic stuff. So even dirty sponges can attract them.

Get rid of any wet fabric or liquid around your kitchen. Make sure you don't have any undiscovered spills in your stove, trash can, or cabinets. If your cabinetry is wood, make sure it is not moist or rotting (particularly under sinks). Check your appliances to be sure no food is there. Flush all of your drains with ammonia.

The above should keep them from breeding, and you will see results within 2 weeks (lifespan).

To kill the ones you've got ASAP, get a 2-liter soda bottle and put an inch or so of vinegar, old beer, or fruit juice, and add a few drops of dish soap. Set up a video camera and watch the little fuckers drown.

5. there was a thread just a couple of weeks ago...

.....that had MANY great ideas for traps. One was to use a clamshell like supermarkets use for berries and punch a few holes in the top, then put your vinegar solution inside and close the lid.

I usually just use a saucer with vinegar, soap, and a bit of sugar. Dozens of them will drown overnight.

7. heh. i hate the fruit fly. but the fruit fly is stoopid. leave any liquid in any sort of container.

plastic containers, beer bottles, old tupperware, things from the supermarket, it does not matter...

in the morning you will have many dead fruit flies.
