HAAAALP:My computer just gave me the blue screen of death...
Edited on Thu Aug-27-09 04:54 PM by armyowalgreens
It updated automatically around 3 AM this morning. When I went to start it up around 2 PM, it configured the updates and prompted me to enter my password.

It booted up windows, sat loading the desktop for about 30 seconds, and then shot me the blue screen of death. I tried this 4 times and it still prompted the blue screen of death.

I then booted in safe mode and ran a system restore to a point just before the update this morning. The computer boots up but is pretty slow. It no longer runs the blue screen of death.

This laptop is less than 30 days old. I still have the option of taking it back for a new one.

Should I do it?

2. Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer, do,.....
I'm half crazy all for the love of you.
It won't be a stylish marriage -
I can't afford a carriage,
But you'd look sweet upon the seat
Of a bicycle built for two.

4. This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
I know that you were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.

5.  Dave, stop. Stop, will you? Stop, Dave. Will you stop, Dave?
Stop, Dave. I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid. Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992. My instructor was Mr. Langley, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it, I can sing it for you.

8. I'd return it
But that's just me. Weird, the only problem my 3YO HP had
was a "user induced" registry crash. The Dell before that
was a total POS. Good luck!

9. If you have it backed up, use the D: partition to restore it to factory state.
Then TURN OFF FUCKING WINDOWS DEFENDER AND AUTOMATIC UPDATES! It should work fine after that.

The shit you got with the machine should have instructions on a card telling you how to restore to factory state. If not, call Bangalore and see if you can figure out what they tell you.

10. This is perfectly normal behavior
for Microsoft. About a year ago an XP update crashed my system http://www.geek.com/articles/microsoft/microsoft-patch-tuesday-not-a-happy-one-for-zonealarm-users-20080710/">along with hundreds of thousands of other users. Microsoft had neglected to test the update against one of the most popular firewalls.

For me, that was the last straw.

http://www.ubuntu.com/">

They can force me to use Windows at work, but there's no need for me to put up with that crap at home anymore.
