Yesterday I was helping a friend set up her new iMac. I needed to reset the admin password. Since I’m not a Mac guy and I have been hearing for years how much simpler Macs are than PCs, how superior Mac support is to any of the major PC brands, and getting a little frustrated that it wasn’t immediately obvious how to do this, I called. After about 30 minutes of not being able to figure it out either, the support person put me on hold to go get the “product specialist”.

I used that time to open up a help file and searched for the word “password”. By the time the “product specialist” came on the line, I had found the instructions, performed the procedure and the machine was logging in with the new password.

Long story short, I, an old PC guy who has touched maybe half a dozen Macs in his entire career had to explain to the iMac “product specialist” how to do an admin password reset.
