Beetle Bailey movie? Paul Rudd in the title role?
WTF kind of casting is THAT????

Heard it on the radio this AM, and can't find a link on-line yet.

I like Rudd, but he's all wrong for the role. You need someone skinny, who seems lazy, easy-going and kinda stupid.

My ideal actor for the part: Topher Grace. He managed ALL those things on That 70s Show...

1. Did they get a reactionary right-wing nut to write the script...
...in keeping with the tone of the author of the comic strip.

13. I checked out wikipedia's entry on Mort Walker. No mention of his politics.
I loved Beetle Bailey when I was a kid. Nothing I remember about it stood out as especially right-wing. Some of the stuff about Lt. Flap and Corporal Yo seem a little dated, but not out-and-out offensive.

4. It isn't about sexy. It's about good casting.
On the other hand, when has Hollywood ever cared about good casting? <SIGH>

6. One must get down the existential question at the bottom of all this....
Why make a movie of a really sucky, unfunny comic strip to begin with? I mean...

WHY?

8. Pfft. Just watch 40 Year Old Virgin next time it's on FX.
Which should be in about 15 minutes or so.

10. He is far from overexposed.
Stop being so jealous. It's unbecoming.

15. He is also seems like one of the nicest guys ever.
I saw him in Chicago for a sneak preview of "I Love You Man" and he and Jason Segal stayed a good long time after signing and taking pictures...they would have stayed even longer but their security shuffled them off.

14. What the hell is the point of a Beetle Bailey movie?
I wonder if they're interested in a little commercial tie-in...Sarge looks like the kinda guy who would have a Wall-to-Wall Counseling manual on his desk, and I look like the kinda guy who wrote one. Maybe we should get together, eh?
