Man Loses Job - Wins $66 Million

A WEEK after being laid off, Tim Rivers has joined the millionaires club, trading in a winning US lottery ticket for $US49 million ($66.63 million).

Three days after losing his job, the 23-year-old factory worker from Salem, Indiana, bought a ticket in the multi-state Powerball lottery and on Sunday learnt he had hit the jackpot.

At the state lottery headquarters in Indianapolis yesterday, he described the rollercoaster experience.

"I woke up thinking I'm going to look for a job, and I don't know where the money's going to come from to pay my bills and everything," Rivers told reporters.

"And by the grace of God, that money came in."
