Computer Question...

My browser keeps saying that I need Java to run a site correctly, but when I click to download the Java Runtime thingy, Microsoft says it doesn't have it..

Fair enough.

So I go to the Sun website and I try to download Java and the download doesn't work. It freezes every time I try to download it!

What do I do?

I am running XP Home on a brand new computer, so its not the computer.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

2. XP Service Pack 1
Have you installed this yet? It contains Microsofts Java VM. Don't install 1a it removes the VM. At the Sun site when you are installing Java is your anti-virus software running? If it is turn it off it will cause the install to go south.

3. I have installed everything from Microsoft Update..

And all of my anti-virus software is disabled when I am trying to download Java from the Sun website. In fact, I am trying to right now and it's just sitting there. It won't start the set up and it's basically frozen.

Im running Internet Explorer if that means anything.

WHat now?

4. Right, turn off the antivirus, and make sure you have the latest
version.

I would not use the integrated Microsoft Virtual Machine.

Of course that is just me.

I like JAVA, and do not want to kill it off using integrated products of questionable value.

Just my two cents.

5. Update!

I have installed Java from the Sun website. I go it to install.

I still can't see any of the smilies move on this website though. Does that have anything to do with Java?

And yes, I am a moron if you were wondering!

I want my little smilies to move! Aghhhh!!! Help!

6. I'm thinking
The smiley faces are just animated GIFs Java doesn't effect those. Go here and let me know if the gifs are moving. http://www.animationfactory.com/free/animals/animals_page_aa.html

someones gonna suggest ex-lax. lets check this In your Web browser goto "Tools" then "Internet Options" then click the "Advanced" tab, scroll down to the "Multimedia" section and check the "Play Animations in web pages" also if you have a firewall we will want to see if its set not to play animated webpages. also if you are using a popup or add blocker it may have a setting to block animations. Let me know
