Fat dogs die young! (my dog is fat, and so am I)
I heard today that big fat dogs die young, like 1 1/2 to 2 years younger per a recent "study" (its from human contact so I cant link).

My dog is fat. She has gained 10 to 15 pounds in the last 2 years. She's a 4 yo bitch yellow lab/goldie mix and should be 75 pounds but shes 85 to 90 pounds

She seems to gain weight when I do. Its wierd. Her playmate, a 1 y.o. German Shepard named Sarge can't play for 6 weeks while he recovers from a new hip displacia surgery. So I am walking her.

Any suggestions on how to make a dog loose 10 pounds and humans 20 pounds?

3. You both need to work out
That's the key. And make sure you avoid fast food while the dog avoids those milk bones and human foods. Keep it on its regular diet of dog food only.

4. Many studies have shown that if you eat less you live longer.
I prefer to suck down everything, but then again I'm suicidal.

5. Humiliate her for being fat
Accuse her of "inhaling twinkies".

Demand that she "take personal responsibility."

Put her in a PETA ad that holds fat animals up to ridicule.

Get her veterinarian to prescribe some phentermine or other kind of speed.

Tell her that boy dogs don't like to mount fat bitches.

Send her to a "Christian" dog school to learn some discipline.

Have her thrown in Gitmo for violating the secret portion of the USA-PATRIOT act.

7. cut down on food
but research first. it's dangerous to cut it too much and too fast. don't forget 15-20 lbs on a dog is like a lot more on us humans. They can get all kinds of liver/kidney problems if you do too much too soon. Try this little trick. Save out part of the regular kibble and use them during the day as treats. Dog won't know. still happy, but fits into his daily ration. We had to do this for a dog we adopted that was very heavy. Good luck. Let us know progress.

9. Have you had her thyroid checked?
Seriously. My golden retriever is enormously fat, and I found out that it was partially due to her thyroid. So she takes medicine for that, and, in addition to reducing her food intake, she's lost approximately 10-12 pounds in the past four months. It's a slow process, but it will work. Good luck.

10. My dog is overweight, too. And I could stand to lose a few pounds.
When I first adopted Legend, my Rottie, she was a lean, mean 75 pounds. Well, I have managed to get her up to 100 pounds. Too many treats.
