3. Why not get some reusable canvas ones?
I've found different types/sizes at fabric stores pretty cheap, some with webbing handles that wouldn't be too long for hanging on handlebars. People buy plain ones there so they can decorate them.
Well, you get points for riding your bicycle!

18. I've switched to the canvas bags - much better.
Hold more, easier to carry, won't split open and of course recyclable.

Check with your supermarket. Many stores are selling the bags; they save too -- less plastic to buy.
My store, Hannaford's, knocks off five cents for each of their bags a customer uses.

7. I ride a bike, too.
On the occasions when I have to put the bags IN my backpack, they gotta be plastic and they gotta be double.

I suppose I could buy a completely separate backpack just for grocery shopping...

8. why do you put them both on the left side?
and no that doesn't make you a bad person, but you might find some canvas ones that work even better.

9. Take them back to the store with you and reuse them.
But canvass bags will hold up better on the handlebars of a bike.

12. No, but panniers are an easier way to carry the load
Edited on Sun Aug-16-09 11:35 PM by Gormy Cuss
if you aren't embarrassed to have a rack on the back that is.:D

There are even cheap DIY panniers on some bike sites like this one:
