Your cry-like-a-baby movie?
I was surprised to find that "Casablanca" doesn't quite do it for me like it used to, though La Marseillaise still gets me. So I guess it's "Field of Dreams" for me. And you?

50. I just received my copy from Netflix.
Haven't watched it yet...I'm trying to work up my courage!
One that broke my heart was "My Dog Skip". The box art for that movie turned ne off for years. A friend of mine insisted I see it, and I'm quite glad he did. Check it out if you haven't already.

Yes, Mask. I cried like a baby after seeing that movie. That kid was one of the coolest kids ever, even with his facial deformity and a wild ass biker mom. Cher was fantastic in that movie as was Sam Elliot. And in case we forgot, Eric Stoltz played Rocky Dennis, the courageous young man.

25. Wonderful? Sorry, George, It’s a Pitiful, Dreadful Life
At least, that's what WENDELL JAMIESON writes in the NY Times, December 18, 2008.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/19/movies/19wond.html

Here is an excerpt:

"Take the extended sequence in which George Bailey (James Stewart), having repeatedly tried and failed to escape Bedford Falls, N.Y., sees what it would be like had he never been born. The bucolic small town is replaced by a smoky, nightclub-filled, boogie-woogie-driven haven for showgirls and gamblers, who spill raucously out into the crowded sidewalks on Christmas Eve. It’s been renamed Pottersville, after the villainous Mr. Potter, Lionel Barrymore’s scheming financier.

"Here’s the thing about Pottersville that struck me when I was 15: It looks like much more fun than stultifying Bedford Falls — the women are hot, the music swings, and the fun times go on all night. If anything, Pottersville captures just the type of excitement George had long been seeking."

Amen.

The boogie-woogie in the sound track is "Kaycee Feeling" by Pete Johnson. (His home town was Kansas City.)

38. He did, in fact, get some attention.
He recognized and rejected the majority viewpoint on this movie. Since criticism is not an exact science, Wendell's viewpoint is equally valid.

IMHO he didn't miss anything.

39. Dude, this is a thread about movies that make you cry
I'm not going to get into an argument with you about such a personal topic--everyone is moved by something different. IMO, many people are moved by this movie, because it shows--and very well, I think--how individuals touch other lives in positive ways (ways that we may never even know), as well as shows the importance of love and mutual support in family, groups of friends, and community. I refuse to be a cynical person and roll my eyes at these concepts, which are the very foundation of creating a worthy life while we're here on Earth. I also refuse to criminalize sentimentality in order to be "hip".

So let's agree to disagree, shall we? Peace.

16. Amadeus and The Black Stallion.
In "Amadeus" it's the burial scene that does it. When they dump his body out of the coffin, it's just so heart-wrenching.

In "The Black Stallion" it's the race scene. The camera goes into slow-motion as blood runs down the horse's leg and then the scene turns into a flashback of Alec and The Black riding bareback on the beach. That gets me every time, even when I'm waiting for it determined NOT to tear up.

(Someone else already took my other cry-like-a-baby movie, "It's a Wonderful Life".)

The last five minutes -- the little boy and Tom Hanks, and he's clutching that little boy as tightly as he can and saying, "What if I had lost you? What if I couldn't have gotten to you? You're my family! Have I screwed it up for the both of us?"

Oh, yeah, I'm crying. Every damn time.

47. Hate to admit it: "Pieces of April"
I think it's a very under appreciated film. It went over my head the first time I saw it. It's very subtle, and the most important revelation of the film isn't even verbalized -- it's just registered on the face of the mother character played by Patricia Clarkson.

As a writer, I have to say it's one of the best written movies ever, and it was very brave of the screen writer/director to make the main point so subtly.

After that scene it's basically turn on the water hoses.
