I started that thread on Friday afternoon because I wanted a diversion.

What's interesting is how many replies it got, even before it got moved from GD.

If I start a substantive thread about transportation issues it's always met with deafening silence.

Why is it that we care so much more about our or other's favorite football teams and so little about things that actually impact our lives?

I suspect I know the answer but I still don't like it.

2. Just more fun sometimes....I'm a Cubs fan( why, god, why?)

and I follow, and like to talk about baseball. I regularly read more serious threads, and then move on to other equally serious topics without having commented . I'm not the best multi-tasker in the world, but I find myself possessing the ability to be a baseball fan, as well as to be an informed citizen (while understanding the absurdity of people "living and dying" by how their favorite team is doing and the even greater absurdity of the obscene amounts of money jocks are paid). I bet the majority of my posts on DU have been about music,in fact, but I read, and learn about the truly important things here such as health care, civil liberties, etc., 7 days a week.
