Day one of the kitty and the air mattress went well
Edited on Sun Aug-16-09 10:27 AM by Bossy Monkey
I got a foam rubber mattress pad to put on top of it, so I don't think her kneading activities will lead to any disaster. But if you hear a loud popping sound from the direction of South Carolina, don't assume it's Jenny Sanford finally getting fed up with Mark.

Edit: Also, I woke up this morning as a Guy Who Used To Have A Back Problem, so the air mattress appears to have been a good move.

1. Oooh, no more back problem is good!
The kitty you speak of is Amelia the bossy monkey, yes? It's great to hear that the air mattress is a success!

And didn't Jenny and the boys move out already?

3. Indeed, Amelia the bossy monkey is the kitty in question
magisterially lying on her heated kitty bed as we speak (or rather, as I type).

Well of course you move the kids out before going back to shoot the SOB. Though from everything I hear about Jenny, she's more likely to emulate Lorena Bobbitt.

5. Ah, OK. Well, being in South Carolina yourself, you know more about Miss Jenny
than I do!

Wow . . . emulating Lorena Bobbitt. I wonder how Miss Tan Lines will feel about a lover with a detached peenie . . .

Does Miss Amelia have the heat setting on now? Or did you just mean her bed has that option?

6. It is supposed to maintain a steady 100 degrees; the only setting is plugging it in or unplugging it
though. They've changed it slightly in the year since I got Amelia's, but pretty much this: http://coolcatgear.com/thermo-kittylounger.aspx

People in my Drinking Liberally group know Jenny Sanford a little. Maybe more Lady Macbeth than Mrs. Bobbitt. WWLadyMacbethD?

2. I went through several air mattresses before finding a cat-proof one
I even bought one of those Aeros that's advertised with a lion resting on it. It was no match for kitty's claws. The one I have now has a foam frame around the air bladders, a layer of memory foam on top and a mattress cover on top of that. That's lasted for about 4-5 years so far.

4. She seems to be satisfied with her Turbo Scratch Pad
and assorted canvas articles of furniture or luggage. She's actually pretty well-behaved (apart from being bossy). However, should she demolish this one, I'll build a wood frame around the next one. Or just buy a futon.

8. Kitty + air mattress - claw caps = destruction of air bed
I strongly suggest you get your cat's claws capped. You can find nail caps at www.softclaws.com where you can choose the size and color of the caps which will fit your kitty.

10. Amelia says, "The very idea!"
Seriously, she's an awfully good kitty, and though she likes scratching up vertical planar surfaces, her preference is for ones that are taller than she (her? whatever), such as my carry-on suitcase. The horizontal part is well-protected. And anyway, as I mentioned, if she destroys it, I'll just get a futon. It was just $30.
