1. I plan on seeing it this weekend - thanks for not including any spoilers
I figured you wouldn't, but you never know with some people. Harry over at AintItCool.com has been raving about how good it is. :hi:

16. It got a great review at pajiba.com
http://www.pajiba.com/film_reviews/district-9-review.php

I find the better the movie, the more thoughful and awesome the reviews it inspires. The pajiba review is fantastic and makes the movie sound provoking and human.

14. I give it 12 stars out of 10!
It is an incredible film, easily the best film of the year.

9. The trailers look like it devolves into a routine action film.
Does it?

18. There's a lot of splatter and explosions
but they're anchored by a pretty solid plot and a good main character.

It's one of the very few CGI intensive movies I've ever seen where the special effects don't overwhelm the story. I think that's really Peter Jackson's genius.

If you really don't like gory action films, you won't like this.

It's not the greatest movie of all time but it's a cut above something like Independence Day... more like Minority Report.

23. The trailers are correct.
The second half is a rather generic action film. It's well done, but it's straight ahead sci-fi action.

12. Is there series or sequel potential?
I plan to see it this weekend... I'd love to see a new smart and enduring Sci-Fi franchise emerge.

I've heard that there are similarities to "Alien Nation" from the '90's.

13. A sequal, yes; will Peter Jackson do a sequal is the big question.

17. There's a very obvious set-up for a sequel
and it's much better than Alien Nation (although I like that one too).

My main quibble is that it's a little too sequel-friendly in that they don't bother to explain very much of the back story and the main plot isn't that tight... lot of loose ends.

Anyway, it's easily the best movie of the summer.
