Best non-caffeine headache remedy?
I have to be off caffeine for the next two days - maybe three.

I know the headache is coming, and I dread it.

Best remedies?

It might be a little extreme though.

23. yes, agreed
Much better for discomfort and pain than other over the counter stuff.

I'm sorry you'll be hurting -- caffeine withdrawal for me isn't just a headache but this weird feeling like my head is stuffed with cotton; I have a hard time thinking clearly until the caffeine withdrawal has worked its way out of my system.

5. You have my sympathy.
I drink only a couple mugs of coffee a day and yet the withdrawal headache is a bitch. Try an online hypnosis session. I use hypnosis to deal with most of my aches and pains - yeah, I know it's weird - and it works. Wishing you well.

Crim son, do you have a link? This sounds interesting.

I just hope they don't make me do something horrible, like go into GD and praise tobacco.

7. Advil Geltabs
or the liquid filled. They work FAST. I also take 1 1/2 dosage initially, then follow directions after that. I usually don't need more than two doses if I do that.

Hope it helps!

you'd think they might want to test in whatever is your normal condition, rather than with a painful caffeine withdrawal headache.
My sympathies. We ran out of tea the other day and I had to go a couple days without. It was painful but it helped to drink a lot of water and take aspirin.

Some contain caffiene. Lying down with a cold rag on the back of the neck worked wonders for my husband. :hi:

19. Start with a big glass of water. If the headache isn't gone in 20 minutes,
then take something. It is possible that during the summer, or winter if heaters dry out the air, that you could be dehydrated and that can bring on a headache. If that doesn't work, then try medicine, like ibuprofen.

it helps.

Good luck. I gave up caffeine twice since I was in college. Once for a week or so. The second time two days.

Let us know how it goes! :hi:

25. Not the best remedy but apparently sex is good for headaches.
Edited on Mon Aug-10-09 10:15 PM by mwooldri
Apparently the usual tale of "Not tonight honey, I have a headache" is lies; sex apparently helps it.

Failing that, acetaminophen and diphenhydramine hydrochloride combined can work well, especially at night. (aka "Tylenol PM" if none of that, regular Tylenol and a Benadryl.)

I don't recommend naproxen sodium (i.e. "Aleve") because both me and my wife get pukey and dizzy on it plus there's a reason it's on prescription in the UK. If you need to do two meds at once then acetaminophen and ibuprofen is a better bet, or even acetaminophen and aspirin, because those are the ingredients in Excedrin - but Excedrin has caffeine in it too, so you can't take that - but match the doses of Excedrin with the other two and that'll work nicely.

It is not exactly caffeine; it is a stereo isomer of caffeine.

Will that do?

28. Lavender spray.
A light mist on your face may help. I think you may be able to find this at health food stores.

I hope you don't have too bad a time--headaches are awful on a good day, but with no caffeine--yuck!
