Food poisoning: It sucks
I had lunch with a bunch of my girlfriends and my DH yesterday at a new place. (My husband just wanted to sit at a lunch table with six women, of course.) A few hours after we came home, I spent most of the evening in the bathroom. Of course, I am the only one who got sick.

My stomach feels like someone (specifically the NFL offensive linemen of your choice,) has been jumping up and down on it. I'm also on the BRAT diet, and sipping Gatorade. Yay.

If anyone else has any suggestions on how to recover more quickly, I'd love to hear them.

1. My sympathies. I had a case a little over a week ago.

Spent hours on the toilet after a batch of shrimp fried rice turned out to have gone bad. Don't eat anything for the next 8 hours or so. Just drink some water and start on some orange juice after a couple hours. And taking some over-the-counter anti-diarrhea pills wouldn't hurt.

2. Oh, God. Shrimp fried rice?
I'm so sorry to read this. I hope that you are feeling MUCH better now.

I ate a grilled turkey/bacon/cheese sandwich, a salad, a few fries with some Ranch. Other people at the table were eating the Ranch, so I ruled it out. It's probably the salad dressing or the sandwich. I didn't eat anything for almost 24 hours. Tonight, I had toast, applesauce, rice and some Gatorade. So far, so good.

Does it occur to anyone else but us that there would be a hell of a lot more food poisoning cases without local health departments? Then again, I suppose this makes me a socialist. ;-)

Again: I hope you're over it, and you'll continue to feel fine.

3. Yeah, it wasn't fun. But I've had cases that were a lot worse.
I had a run-in with a bad batch of organic beef a few years back, and that made this bout look like a walk in the park by comparison.

Thanks for the good wishes -- I'm well and truly over it -- and I'm glad to hear you seem to have recovered.

4. flush it out and take it easy
so sorry you got sick... this is an important concern. My husband died a few years back of complications from food poisoning - listeria bacteria. I hope we all start paying attention.

keep yourself well!
