1) What are your dogs' names?

2) How old are your dogs now?

3) What breed/breeds are your dogs?

4) Were/are your dogs difficult for you in ways?

5) How affectionate is your dog?

6) Is your dog a good watch dog?

7) Is your dog a guard dog?

9) How friendly with dogs, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with other dogs?

10) What are your dogs' favorite non-eating activities?

My answers:

1) Gordon

2) About 1.5 years

3) He's a Goldendoodle (Golden Retriever and Poodle mix)

4) He is great with big stuff (bathroom habits, being good when we left the house, not taking food), but gets into lots of stuff, jumps up on people, and mouths. But he's young. I find his spirit/energy fun.

5) Loves to go on lap; does a happy dance when we come in; not a face licker. Overall pretty affectionate.

6) Yes

7) Definitely not

8) 10/10

9) 9/10, a bit timid in groups

10) He loves to play keep-away and chase games, loves walks, loves to chew bones and bully sticks. Does not like to retrieve the ball or toys, which goes against his breeds.

1) Cindy and Murphy

2) Both are 6.5 years old

3) Cindy = Catahoula Leopard (maybe mixed) and Murphy = Australian Cattle Dog

4) Not really difficult. Just different from the Lab/Shepherd mixes we always had.

5) Moderately affectionate. Cindy doesn't leave my side - a true velcro dog. Murphy will lick you to death if he knows you and you let him.

6) Excellent watch dogs

7) No. They will alert like crazy if someone comes, but I doubt either would do any harm.

8) Cindy = 9 and Murphy = 2 (he doesn't like people that he does not know)

9) Cindy = 8 and Murphy = 5 (he's wary of strange dogs, but once he makes friends, he is okay)

10) Cindy loves her Boomer Ball. She'll play until she drops. Murphy likes to play with his toys, especially the ones with talking chips (lion and frog). He tore apart his talking cow :-).

3. Well, I have just moved and left my dog on the farm where I lived
with my father because he just would not be happy in the city. At least I just cant imagine that he could ever be, he has 20 acres all to himself on the farm and he loves it there.

He is still my dog, even though I can't be with him right now.

1) What are your dogs' names? Bosco

2) How old are your dogs now? About 2 years old, cant know for sure as I found him, or rather he found me. The vet said when I found him that he was less than a year old.

3) What breed/breeds are your dogs? don't know for sure, definitely part blue heeler.

4) Were/are your dogs difficult for you in ways? not a difficult minute.

5) How affectionate is your dog? highly. although he doesnt jump up on me or anything, he always comes running when I get home so I can pet him and talk to him for a bit and maybe play fetch.

6) Is your dog a good watch dog? not very. He will bark, though and alert us to the fact that a stranger is there. he is not aggressive to the stranger, however.

7) Is your dog a guard dog? not at all. A much better watch dog than a guard dog. He is too friendly.

8) How friendly with strangers, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with people? 9/10

9) How friendly with dogs, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with other dogs? 8/10

10) What are your dogs' favorite non-eating activities? chasing jack rabbits, treeing raccoons, making sure no cows come onto our land that shouldn't be there, fetching, going to the mailbox (it is a long walk to the road), burying rawhide treats, sleeping, barking at the FedEx or UPS truck, following my father around the farm.

5. Ropes are a good idea; Gordon likes to tug
I'm still looking for things besides rawhide bones, because he goes a little goofy over those.

My previous dog, Reba, was the most interesting mix - Golden Retriever, Akita, Chow Chow, Shar-Pei, and Mini Schnauzer mix. Though she was so big that she probably just had a little Schnauzer. With strangers she was 9/10 (liked everyone but wasn't as enthusiastic as Gordon,) and with dogs, a 2. Unlike Gordon, she licked a lot and was more obedient. But Gordon has his own charm. Dogs are different like people. :-)

Look at that tennis ball :-). I wish my dogs loved water. We always had Lab/Shepherd mixes before these two. Cindy and Murphy do not swim at all :-(.

8. 1) What are your dogs' names? Babe

2) How old are your dogs now? about 9 years old. Not sure. She was dumped at the end of our driveway when she was about 6 mos. old according the vet's best estimate.

3) What breed/breeds are your dogs? Black Lab mix.

4) Were/are your dogs difficult for you in ways? No. As a matter of fact, she uses the cow pasture next door as a bathroom so there is never dog doo-doo in the yard.

5) How affectionate is your dog? Very. Wasn't always. She was afraid of us when she was first dumped off.

6) Is your dog a good watch dog? No.

7) Is your dog a guard dog? No.

8) How friendly with strangers, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with people? Not at all but she's not mean. She just leaves when company comes over.

9) How friendly with dogs, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with other dogs? I would guess about a 7. We live in a rural area and everyone who has dogs on our road lets them run free. They all seem to get along fine for the most part.

10) What are your dogs' favorite non-eating activities? Running around out here in the wide open spaces.

15. My answers:
Edited on Sun Aug-09-09 02:26 PM by RebelOne
1) What are your dogs' names?
Legend and Honey Bear

2) How old are your dogs now?
Legend will be 12 years old next month. Honey Bear ia 1-1/2 years old.

3) What breed/breeds are your dogs?
Legend is a Rottweiler and Honey Bear is a Chihuahua.

4) Were/are your dogs difficult for you in ways?
The only problem I had with Legend, the Rottweiler, is that she would drag me down the street when we went for walks. So, I took her to obedience school, which cured the problem. Honey Bear, the Chihuahua is still a problem, in that I cannot get her house-broken, but she does go on pee pads.

5) How affectionate is your dog?
My Rottie is not overly affectionate, but does appreciate belly rubs. The Chihuahua is very affectionate since she always wants attention and crawls into my lap and wants to sleep with me. Legend could care less as she has her own cushy bed.

6) Is your dog a good watch dog?
The Chihuahua is an excellent watch dog. She yaps and barks at anything that moves outside.

7) Is your dog a guard dog?
Ny Rottweiler is an excellent guard dog. No one would even consider breaking into my house when they see a 07-pound Rottweiler sitting at the window. There have been home broken into next door and across the street from me, so I think Legend had deterred anyone even thinking of breaking in.

8) How friendly with strangers, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with people?
Legend would be on a scale of 5, as she is leery of strangers until she knows them better. The Chihuahua would be on a scale of 1, as she does not like anyone but me and will bite.

9) How friendly with dogs, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with other dogs?
Both dogs are friendly with other dogs on a scale of 10.

10) What are your dogs' favorite non-eating activities?
Playing tug of war with their toys and going for walks. And my Rottie loves riding in the car, but the Chihuahua hates riding.

13. I have 4 permanent dogs
1) What are your dogs' names?

Dharma (Dharmaduke, Prince Dufus), Faz, Tini and Tink (last 3 are nicknames to protect the innocent).

2) How old are your dogs now?

Dharma is a year and some change, Faz is 15, Tini is (we're guessing) 8 or 9, Tink is around 8.

3) What breed/breeds are your dogs?

Dharma is a great dane, Faz is a mix of keeshond and furry nightmare, Tini is a shnotweiler (sharpei/rottie mix), Tink is a beagle/bully mix

4) Were/are your dogs difficult for you in ways?

Difficult? Well, Dharma is a 140 lb "puppy" which has a unique set of challenges. Early on, Faz HATED every dog and person he ever met (roomie's dog). Tini has shitty hips, which is why we never adopted him out (and I'm glad we kept him). Tink was tough to housetrain. VERY tough.

5) How affectionate is your dog?

All four are incredibly affectionate.

6) Is your dog a good watch dog?

As far as barking goes, Faz knows he doesn't have to do that job anymore. He lets the kids handle the job. They handle it well.

7) Is your dog a guard dog?

Dharma's size and bark are pretty intimidating. Another year of maturity and he'll be ready for the role of dog king. Tink is very good about barking, but as for guarding, I think she's like a backup vocalist. Tini would, I honestly believe, kill or be killed to protect me.

8) How friendly with strangers, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with people?

In public (as opposed to coming around their yard) Dharma, 9. Faz, 1 (he bit our lawyer). Tini, 9. Tink, 9.

9) How friendly with dogs, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with other dogs?

Depends on the situation. Dogs coming around their property? Not at all. None of them. Dogs at a park? They're good. I can say that when I bring a new dog into the rescue, they're very happy and accepting of the noob.

10) What are your dogs' favorite non-eating activities?

Anything that involves hanging out with me. Dharma has another puppy playmate (a current rescue up for adoption) that he loves to play outside with. Otherwise, typical dog stuff. Chewing on nylarings and Galileos, sleeping, going buh-bye car.

14. OK!!!Great dogs here, fer sher!!!.
His names are Corey, aka Peanut and sometimes Satan.
he is just over 9 years old.
He is a Doberman/Great Dane.
His Doberman part wants to rule the world, his Dane side is a goofus. He is wonderful.
He is a serious love bucket, not a face licker, but he snuggles and dances.
He will bark at anyone he sees who he does not know, including people outside. He is 115 pounds and marked like a Doberman, and has a bark like a semi horn under a bridge - he scares the piss out of strangers, and if I want them to stay scared, I say "Get back, Satan!!!" and pull at his leash...I have had people cross the street to avoid us when I did that.
I don't know if he would be a good guard dog, but his function is to wake me up if needed at night...I'm the one with the shotgun.

He is very mannerly and a great dog when he feels like it, but he will ignore you completely at times.
He likes people after he gets to know them, but he knows when people are not right, and won't get friendly with them ever.
He gets along with most medium and large size dogs, I don't think he realises very small dogs are dogs.

Loves to walk and can piss maybe 15 times at will. LOVES the CAR and rawhide chewers, ignores toys, balls, etc - never played as a pup. Hew loves to half-lay on the sofa with his front feet on the floor, looking at TV - and at us. He is THE happiest being I have ever met, and he seems like he enjoys nearly everything....but he WILL NOT GO inside the vet's building. Last time he got his shots, the vet came outside...in the rain.
3 people could not drag him inside the office.

mark

29. rags, socks, barbie, and grandpuppy zeke
rags and socks are rat terriers, barbie is a boxer. all are about 6. zeke is some sort of wire haired terrier type mutt. he is about 1 year old. he will be replaced soon by biscuit, a dobie-pointer mix as one kid moves out and another moves back.
all are very affectionate with us, although rags and socks do not like strangers. barbie and zeke love everyone.
all bark too much. terriers bark at everything, the other 2 bark for fun. terriers still pee in the house, and sleep in a crate because of this. biscuit has been known to jump on tables and counters, and eat anything left around. they are all pretty well trained basic obedience-wise, and decently behaved when they are convinced i am in control.
the terriers are great burglar alarms, but the boxer will stand up to you. zeke is worthless on both counts. biscuit is as well.
all mostly get along with other dogs, although barbie gets a little uppity with other bullie breeds.
zeke will chase and fetch, the terriers just chase. all love to chew. rags hates walks, but everyone else loves to walk, and to go along for bike rides. same for car rides.

32. My boys
1) What are your dogs' names?
Eddie and Beaker.

2) How old are your dogs now?
Eddie is 7. Beaker is 5.

3) What breed/breeds are your dogs?
Both are mutts we adopted from the pound. Our best guess: Eddie is part Poodle and part Terrier and Beaker is some kind of Collie and Chihuahua mix.

4) Were/are your dogs difficult for you in ways?
Beaker ate everything when we first got him. Shoes, books, CDs, etc. As for Eddie, we once took him to PetSmart and decided never again as he seemed to think the store was just one gigantic bathroom. Everytime we finished cleaning up one mess, he had already left another mess for us to clean up. He does the same thing at the vet. We seriously wonder if he saves it up for "special occasions".

5) How affectionate is your dog?
Very. It doesn't matter if my husband and I are gone for 8 minutes or 8 hours, they both react the same way: like they have not seen us in years.

6) Is your dog a good watch dog?
Yes - we call them the adorable doorbells.

7) Is your dog a guard dog?
Only when it comes to their food.

8) How friendly with strangers, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with people?
Eddie 10/10. Eddie loves all people.
Beaker 1/10. He is very distrusting of all people except myself and my husband. It took him a LONG time to warm up to my mom and he is still a bit nervous around her. Everyone else, he does not care for.

9) How friendly with dogs, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with other dogs?
Eddie is probably a 9/10.
Beaker is probably a 3/10, but it depends on the size of the other dog. Our neighbor on one side has a small dog and Beaker tries to act like a bully (and it really makes Beaker mad that the little dog is not afraid of him at all). On the other side, 3 large dogs live and Beaker won't mess with them. They sniff each other through the fence, but Beaker always slowly walks away without making a sound.

10) What are your dogs' favorite non-eating activities?
Eddie - without a doubt, going for a ride in the car.
Beaker - butt warming - no matter how hot or how cold it is, he insists on laying with his body pressed firmly against either my butt or my husbands, although he seems to slightly prefer my husbands. :)

34. OK
1) What are your dogs' names?

Hank and Lolly

2) How old are your dogs now?

Hank is 4 and Lolly is 10

3) What breed/breeds are your dogs?

Hank is a mixed breed. Golden Retriever and Australian shepherd. Lolly is a mini-pin.

4) Were/are your dogs difficult for you in ways?

Sort of. Lolly has health issues. I have to feed her 4 pills a day. And they bark at inopportune times. AKA Bella's sleeping time.

5) How affectionate is your dog?

Hank is a big old teddy bear. He loves on anyone. Lolly only gives her love to my husband and me.

6) Is your dog a good watch dog?

Yes. Both are.

7) Is your dog a guard dog?

Yes. Both are. Even though Lolly is too small to really guard me, she will attack someone.

8) How friendly with strangers, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with people?

If I greet the stranger, Hank is a 10. If I don't greet them, he is about a 5. Lolly is a 1. She doesn't greet anyone happily.

9) How friendly with dogs, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with other dogs?

Hank is about a 5. Lolly doesn't care one way or another. Probably a 8.

10) What are your dogs' favorite non-eating activities

Lolly loves to fetch the frisbee. Hank just wants to be petted all of the time.

35. My family...

1) What are your dogs' names? Heidi, Bailey, and Sadie

2) How old are your dogs now? Heidi is about 14. Bailey is 6. Heidi is 4.

3) What breed/breeds are your dogs? Heidi is a shep mix, but we don't know with what. Bailey is Beagle/Lab. Little boy. Big mouth. And Sadie is Shep/Retriever mix.

4) Were/are your dogs difficult for you in ways? Bailey gets fixated on things and it's difficult to get him to back off. Right now he's fixated on the new kitty, Toeby, and he just will not leave the cat alone.

5) How affectionate is your dog? All very affectionate.

6) Is your dog a good watch dog? Bailey would likely lick them to death. Heidi used to bark at everything, but has slowed down a lot since she got older. And Sadie was mistreated so she cowers if you even raise your voice.

7) Is your dog a guard dog? No x 3.

8) How friendly with strangers, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with people? Bailey, 10, likes everyone. Sadie, 6, has to warm up to them. Heidi, 5, used to be very standoff-ish, but has mellowed some.

9) How friendly with dogs, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with other dogs? 8 for all.

10) What are your dogs' favorite non-eating activities? Sleeping.

38. About my doggie.
1) What are your dogs' names? Heidi

2) How old are your dogs now? about 10 years old, not sure, she was a rescue

3) What breed/breeds are your dogs? German Shepherd

4) Were/are your dogs difficult for you in ways? The shedding is hard to deal with, but the worst thing is that she doesn't like being away from us. Makes going away difficult, if not impossible. I attribute this to the fact that she was abandoned.

5) How affectionate is your dog? Somewhat, but she is more protective than affectionate

6) Is your dog a good watch dog? Extremely

7) Is your dog a guard dog? Not officially

8) How friendly with strangers, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with people? Depends on if they appear threatening, if they have a dog with them, or if they are male or female. I would say on average, about 4.

9) How friendly with dogs, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with other dogs? She is very protective and somewhat aggressive on the leash, but playful otherwise. She prefers males. On average, 5.

10) What are your dogs' favorite non-eating activities?
Going for walks and playing hide and seek.

1) Bella

2) 1.5 y.o.

3) Mix - so far we've identified: collie, beagle, basenji, coonhound and some kind of terrier, probably fox

4) Bella is stubborn, demanding and opinionated. But she's so damn cute, it's all good.

5) She not as cuddly as we want her to be yet. She does love to hug and give kisses but is only just learning to get up on the couch with us. She is otherwise afraid of people but has come a long way.

6) Watch dog? Yes, she alerts us to the slightest change in our outside environment (including birds, squirrels and falling leaves.)

7) Guard dog? Bwahahaha! She runs behind us for protection from bees never mind burglars.

8) Noted above, she's afraid of people.

9) Loves dogs but is still skittish around big dogs. She LOVES puppies (no matter the size).

10) She loves to play (even more than eating). Play with me, other dogs, all by herself (pinecones and leaf piles make great play toys!) She has a bunch of 'intelligence' toys like puzzles to figure out and she will play with them relentlessly (as long as we keep putting them back together when she's gotten them apart.) She likes to play keep away with napkins, hair ties and socks. And she LOVES to chew.

1) What is your dog's name? Sally

2) How old is your dog now? Almost 9

3) What breed/breeds is your dog? Border collie/Heeler

4) Was/is your dog difficult for you in ways? Didn't bark much when we adopted her at 2 years old, now barks at dogs walking by and dogs barking in our neighborhood.

5) How affectionate is your dog? Very. Loves to get patted, will gracefully jump onto one of our laps or onto a bed, if invited (sometimes even if not invited). Nudges and noodles with muzzle to ask for more pats.

6) Is your dog a good watch dog? Not that I know of.

7) Is your dog a guard dog? " " " " ".

8) How friendly with strangers, on the scale of 1 to 10, is your dog with people? At least 9. She might be a tiny bit wary for a few seconds, but as soon as you pat her, you're her friend. Jumps on people a bit, especially when happy to see our son's friends who throw a ball for her (she's got them pegged!)

9) How friendly with dogs, on the scale of 1 to 10, is your dog with other dogs? Around 1 :( . She's a type A, bossy herding girl. I don't dare let her play with dogs we don't know because she often growls and bares her teeth (maybe it's the leash thing- but I don't dare find out.)

10) What are your dog's favorite non-eating activities? She wrote the book on The Physics of the Bouncing Ball ... "if ball, A, is thrown a distance of 25 feet, at a speed of 40 mph, before it intersects with tree-with-bumpy-trunk, B, it will continue on a path at a 120?angle at approximately 30 mph until being abruptly decelerated by C, my steel-trap jaws"; Cloth frisbee retrieval ; Bike inner tube tug-o-war and 'snake shaking'.
Loves found tennis balls, raw beef soup bones.

41. All about my Daisy!
1) What are your dogs' names? Daisy, it was the name she came with from the SPCA. They had done some light training with her and thought she would be confused if we called her something else.

2) How old are your dogs now? I guess about 7 or so.

3) What breed/breeds are your dogs? Austrailian Cattledog mix

4) Were/are your dogs difficult for you in ways? She does not come when her name is called. This is when outside and off the leash. Inside, she comes right away.

5) How affectionate is your dog? Pretty good, but not overly so.

6) Is your dog a good watch dog? Not really, she barks at random sounds outside.

7) Is your dog a guard dog? Yes, by looks alone. I have no fear when walking her as no one will pass me on the sidewalk. They cross to the other side of the street when they see us coming.

8) How friendly with strangers, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with people? I would say a 10. She thinks people are around to pet her.

9) How friendly with dogs, on the scale of 1 to 10, are your dogs with other dogs? This depends. Sometimes very accepting, even when being jumped on. Other times not so much.

10) What are your dogs' favorite non-eating activities? Sleeping by my side of the bed or going bye-bye. She loves the car and looks so sad when I say she has to stay home and be "guard puppy'.

42. I'll post first about our beloved Yogi,
Yogi was our Shi Tsu who succombed to congestive heart failure in June. He was 12 and we got him through a friend of my wife when he was deployed to Iraq in 2004.

Yogi was a person unto himself. Not a better door bell to be found. He just loved everyone except my stepson who he literally despised. Needless to say, he'd just assume wag his tail and be petted than guard anything other than his toys.

When Yogi wanted to show affection, we couldn't stop him no matter what. But when he didn't want to be bothered, well, he wasn't.

Yogi's toys were his and his only. No if's and's or but's. But he did have his favorite hamburger and a couple of other toys that we put away when he passed. Those were his special toys.

Fortunately for us, since Yogi was so sick for so long, we decided to get another pet when he passed. As luck would have it, less than a week later we found a rescue from Kentucky that we named Ella Grace.

Ella is a 2 y/o minature poodle.

We were lucky in that by all appearances, the only problem she had was her hair had been neglected. The shelter cleaned her up before she was sent up to us. She was completely house trained and was very friendly. She is not shy in the least.

Although we've only had a little less than 2 months, one thing we are absolutely sure of. SHE'S A LAP DOG OF THE HIGHEST ORDER.

1) Bentley

2) 1 year 6 months old

3) Puggle (pug dad and beagle mom)

4) Getting Bentley to go potty when she's distracted by some scent or sound.

5) Very affectionate. Will lick to death!

6) She howls like a beagle whether it's an unknown person or a leaf blowing in the wind.

7) Not a guard dog.

8) 7. She will be skittishly running circles around people she doesn't know and progressively get closer, all the while with her tail wagging.

9) 7. She wants to play. She's grown up with her "brother" (an orange cat) and they are used to rough-housing.

10) Playing with her brother-cat or nibbling on rawhide.
