meet Kane, the pound puppy ... and he's all mine

Kane is a Norwegian Elkhound Chow Chow Cross ...

We've been looking for a dog for a while now. It's taken some time to get over the passing of our Rottweiler just 2 years ago this past summer.

I've been checking the animal control centre here every week and this morning they had 11 puppies from 2 litters. Same dog fathered both litters. The owner surrendered all the pups to the shelter. It's a kill shelter. I wish I could have taken all the dogs. The lady at the shelter said the rest of the pups are going to the humane society and they will all be place with no problem. There weren't a lot of dogs at the shelter. A couple of chihuahuas and two beagles.
The owner apparently agreed to take her dogs to the low cost spay/neuter clinic this coming week. We can only hope she does.


We picked a male, 8 weeks old. He's a hoot!

I can just imagine how soft he is.
I searched 'Chow-Chow Norwegian Elkhound mix dogs' to see what Kane might look like when he's a big dog, and found this older young guy, who doesn't have a dark face like Kane, but might be kind of similar otherwise, and a girl Chow-Chow-Norwegian Elkhound, who has a dark face, but Elkhound coat. It's interesting how thay all have different traits.

He has a very LOUD yelp, bark. Poor little guy misses the other 10 pups I guess. He's met our oldest cat. He's impressed but the cat isn't :rofl: The other two are in a snit for now.

It's now his bath towel. He had a bath when we got him home. It's the same old towel we had for our Rottie, Tarn. The bath didn't impress him but he sure smells a lot sweeter!

I wanted to take ALL 11 pups home. I just hope they DO all get adopted. People need to spay and neuter!!!

Kane will be fixed as soon as the vet says he's ready.

31. I don't think he'll be as big or beefy as my Rottie was ..

Maybe 60 lbs or so? Elkhounds go about 55lbs and Chows 70lbs (weights for males both breeds) so maybe 60 or more? I hope so. I love big dogs, aw heck I love dogs hehe

27. Jake Two Times, our elkhound, was an excellent dog --

gorgeous, smart, stubborn -- they're a stubborn breed -- thus the "two times" part of his name-- had to be told twice, always. Would wink, twirl, and round up the toddlers on command.

Sweet pup ya got there. Pleases post more pics as he grows. His ears whould stand up soon.

...my cat is from the pound. She was 7 months old when I got her in 2001. Every time she tries my patience I can see those eyes looking at my from the other side of the cage in the Santa Clara Humane Society and think "OK...you win...AGAIN."
