For real, you can - just don't expect a bed, lights, air conditioning or toilet paper.
http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=8281973Rancho Bernardo Inn is a very nice hotel, usually charging over $200 per night. Basically they are turning some rooms into a virtual campground, providing a tent if you want, or just the room. Same price as many campgrounds but you get to sleep on a clean floor, not outdoors with bugs and possible snakes. If you're on a camping trip to California and you need a place to stop for the night, you could do much worse than spreading out your sleeping bag in a room at this hotel. I hope the idea catches on, actually. Hotels offering rooms with no services other than a clean floor and your own private bathroom, at campground rates.
