Television shopping with my significant other.... Recommendations?

My s/o's TV went kaput last night. It's an old RCA 60" projection screen, so I think he's about decided that he's going to invest in something new, rather than fix it again (it's been worked on once before, I think).

I think he's going to consider things from 45" to 52" (depending on the measurements- it's going to have to fit inside of his entertainment console). So, what say you? Plasma? LCD? LCD-LED? His house-mate watches a helluva lot of TV (the thing is on probably 12+ hours per day).
