OMG Car accident in front of my house. No one hurt but
The guys whole back bumper fell off and went in the ditch.

I didn't see it, I just heard the thump and ran to see what happened. A woman in a van and a guy in a white car. A town truck was going buy and that guy stopped and is directing traffic. But I see the guy driver kicking car parts out of the road. Are you supposed to that or wait for the cops?

But boy do I wish this house wasn't so close to the road.

I tell you people drive like maniacs here, more so than in a lot of places. In 2000 a car literally ran into our porch and knocked half of our living room in. The driver had to be taken in for a broken leg, and my mother for observation because she had, had heart surgery three months before, and they were concerned about her blood pressure. Eveybody came out okay and our house didn't get condemned but it took over a year to fix all the damage.

Another year a teenage girl let her boyfriend drive her father's "Porsche" without persmission, and he ran it into the back of a farm tractor right across from our house. Again luckily no one seriously hurt, although the girl was in a panic because she knew her butt was in trouble, once her dad found out.

Then years back a tanker truck tipped over in front of it and there has been a series of other minor accidents along the way.

I won't even cross this road on foot any more and I pray before I pull out of my driveway in the car. I mean the speed limit is 45 but most people do I'd guess 75 or better. Damn this used to be a quiet farming road when I was a kid, but they over developed and this is what we have now.

The State trooper is out there now checking things out. Oh well at least no one got hurt which is a good thing.

1. Given the number of accidents, is there any way to get whoever owns the
road (state, county, town) to install some traffic calming measures?

2. The town owns and maintains the road.
So that is a good idea to contact them and see if there is anything they do about the situation. The County Sheriff and the NYS Troopers take turns patroling it so maybe contatcing them couldn't hurt either.

3. Living on a steep hill in Boston
every winter I see dozens and dozens of folks who don't have the technique or the equiptment to get up the hill,
skidding off the road ending up in the snowbank calling for help, friends arriving to help push, tow trucks, tears, bent fenders and shovels left behind.

I used to run out and help, but I don't anymore. It just happens too often for me to drop everything and run out to help.
We watch from the window and hope they keep their heads.

4. That's understandable.

I feel the same way. If I see from the window that no one got hurt and they have a cell phone, I just stay inside now.

The day the teenager hit the tractor, I was outside when it happened and saw the whole thing, so the police did ask me for a statement.
