1. According to the Facebook quiz "Which Hogwarts House do you belong to?", I belong in
Ravenclaw. Cool! B-)

2. I actually had this discussion with my newest Facebook friend
I'm a Ravenclaw, she's a Gryffindor.

I probably suck at Quidditch, too. :-)

4. I'm a Slytherin
My darling wife is a Hufflepuff. If we had kids, I'm sure they'd be Ravenclaws. It's just a hunch I have.

6. Gryffindor
I've taken several of those "Sorting Hat" quizzes, and it almost always comes out as Gryffindor. Always running off on some damn fool crusade...

7. If I were a Hogwarts student
I would refuse to participate in the horrific practice of dividing students up based on their perceived character traits, and then treating other students as parts of a house-centered hivemind.

;)

8. Sorting Hat says GRYFFINDOR!
It's that sort of gutsy, daring move that demonstrates (1) you have some serious wizard cojones, and (2) you definitely belong with the Gryffindors.

That said, your point is well taken. Even arch-Gryffindor Dumbledore himself said that it is our choices that make us who we are, not our abilities.

9. you know
I'm a fan of the books and films but this one point has always bothered me. Not a large degree, mind, but it's always struck me as rather out of place considering the other themes in the books.

Or I could be over thinking a children's book ;)

10. Are you a democrat or a republican - isn't that parsing as well - and partys are hives?

(though NEVER a puke) and parties are self-selected, not hat-selected, based on one's own beliefs.

And the treatment of any member of a group, especially when it's not self-selected, as being identical in personality and abilities as all other members of the group is ludicrous; especially in your example, since neither party truly has any unity in terms of beliefs. Similarities, perhaps, but there are too many political views to be held by only 2 parties.

again, I understand it's just a kids book, and it's a minor part of it, etc, but I don't think that's a fantastic message.

and I didn't say that parties (or houses) are "hives," I said that students treat other students from a different house as a unified "other," (a hivemind) possessing basically all the same character traits (and flaws)
