the "small: side of the arrow is pointing at the 1, meaning less than.

2>1, the "big" side of the arrow is near the 2, meaning greater than.

<0 means less than 0.

the pointy part points to the smaller number
the big open end is the bigger number

hence zero is bigger than your recs OR your recs are smaller/less than zero
