How to resign?
So I'm a-goin' into work to resign tonight after 2+ years. Good job, good folks, I just don't need to work there anymore and would rather focus on other things.

How have you folks resigned? I'm starting with, "So how would you be, schedule-wise, if I'm not working here in September?"

1. Just hand them a letter
that says:

"Effective mm/dd/yyyy I am resigning my position as xxxxxxx with your organization in order to pursue other opportunities in the marketplace.

I enjoyed my time working with all of you, and I wish you the greatest success on all of your future endeavours.

Sincerely yours,
Robb"

I used a similar letter when i resigned a position after 9 years. it got back to me that the head Mo-Fo thought it was a "class act"...

4. Play it to your advantage
Play a little hardball, and demand a raise. See how far you can push them up the pay scale before you eventually resign.

After all, what do you have to lose??

Just be careful. May need a reference somewhere down the road.

5. oh my stars and garters!
I'm pretty close to resigning too (been thinking about it since March). That polite letter is a good idea. Given the sloppy accounting at my particular workplace, however, I'm waiting to deposit my next paycheck first...

6. Gotta agree with simplicity
Don't grind any axes, complete any missions, burn any bridges. Just say you enjoyed your stay, you wish them well and move on. Leave a favorable impression - you never know when you might need their backing - even if they were assholes.

7. Write a letter
If you tell them, especially if you make a negotiable statement like the one you suggested, they might give you a hard time about leaving. If you want that so that they'll give you a raise, go for it. On the otherhand, it sounds like you just don't want to work there anymore, so avoid that hassle.

9. gracefully
I've learned the hard way how a bad parting of ways can impact future employment.

10. You are TELLING them you are resigning ....
not asking for permission.

Write a professional note telling then you are resigning to pursue other personal goals. Don't mention any negatives about the company, hours, duties, etc. Stay positive and don't burn your bridges. Leave a good impression. Don't burn any bridges - you may need a reference some day.

Good luck!:D

11. Well there is that thing about burning bridges,
so I suppose polite is the best way. Think about making sure you don't leave them in a lurch. However, if they are a bunch of pricks and you have another job offered, don't worry about the niceties. If you have to leave in three days politely let them know that and stick to your guns.
