So when did My Name is Earl jump the shark?

I'm glad to see that someone else noticed this:

Were you charmed by the first sweet and funny season of My Name is Earl? Me too. And did you just about give up on the show after it eventually lost most of its charm and became a depressing, unfunny raunch fest? Me too. That's probably why I'm not too excited about Earl creator Greg Garcia's new show.

3. Technically, it wasn't renewed
I really liked its first season and then just kinda drifted away.

That whole stupid idea drove a lot of fans away.

6. When they strayed away from Earl's list, the show weakened.
The list idea was very funny and creative and I love how they played off of each list item. The problem is, at times they would often abandon the premise of the show for no good reason--like when they did take offs on COPS or Inside Edition, or the ridiculous creative writing episode.

I actually didn't mind the jail episodes, but I hated the coma/fake 50s sitcom arc. Just a waste of time. The list was what made the show great, and I don't know why they didn't do more to stick to that.

Still, I'm sad to know it was cancelled, even when certain particular episodes were subpar. There is just less and less scripted programming out there. Too many awful reality and competition shows I could care less about. And why does Jay Leno still need a daily talk show that eats up the 10:00 hour every night?
