7. my neighbor was washing his car yesterday afternoon
the clouds started rolling in and I begged him to keep washing it so we could get some rain.

Sure enough, as soon as he was finished, it began to rain.

We had some rain today too, I'm sure glad he washed his car.

12. that's exactly what my neighbor said
we normally have about 5 inches of rain by the end of June, with yesterday's rain and today's rain, we might make 2 inches.

It has been too hot and too dry. x(

24. I was out trying to take pics of the lightning
and loved the coolness of the air. Didn't get any good pics though. It was like suddenly everyone was "Big storms comin'! Let's get out and drive around!" Because the amount of traffic on my street seemed to increase exponentially.

26. It is just that they didn't remember what rain was.
I am so glad for the rain with the 4th coming up.

The old railroad yard had lots of really dry weeds.

If some fool would have been using bottle rockets like last year, the yard could have caught on fire.

29. That's probably it.
"Old railroad yard"? The only one yard I know of in the Heights area (near TC Jester) is still in business, unless it's been shut down in recent years...

Looking over Google Maps now, finding lots of old spur lines :)

34. That's it.
Half of it is still in use.

The other half was bought for townhouses, in a flood plain.

The good news is that that the income has killed the project. for now.

What there is left is lots of weeds of all kinds.

Great dog walking space.

If you really want to cry look at what happened to the woods, the middle was cut out and left.

35. Google Maps and Google Earth are often several years behind
so I'd have to drive over there to see the damage. It is ridiculous what we allow in this town for developers...

I did find some derelict warehouses over off Clinton (after following old rr track beds) where it looks like someone built homes inside of the still standing walls. No roofs, just very tall walls, likely made of concrete. Good use of existing structures, though you wouldn't get much sun :)

36. I loved woods, everybody did.
It was about 25 acres with a creek.

Never cut, just natural.

Then it was bought but left alone for many years due to the big flood 2001,

The railroad yard and woods were under 3 ot 4 ft of water.

Two years ago the delevoper cut out the middle of the woods and did nothing.

Now there is nothing but weeds there.

The back area is still nice for walking but hard to get to now with all weeds.

Everyone knew about the woods. it was a nice place to walk.

37. Cast about a bunch of hemp seeds
then turn in the owner of the property for cultivating marijuana :D

I've often wanted to put scads of hemp seeds in Estes rockets and fire them into the clear-cut lands of International Paper, then turn them in for cultivation ;)

38. Bush was good for something.
His 8 years in office killed so many jobs nobody can buy townhouses here.

There are lots of empty townhouses here, a lot cheaper.

21. we are finally getting a nice shower
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 10:01 PM by Kali
it got real dark to the north a couple hours ago an the wind was blowing pretty good. Radar showed storm warnings and nice big storms make a big 50 mile half circle around us. I was getting bummed, but now we are having a nice steady RAIN.

The big exciting storms are fun but this is way better for the ground. :toast:

It helps that I need to replace the drivers side window on mine, though.
And it really helps that today I ordered replacement dishes and a fork instead of the roll-up thingy for the window, huh?
