True Blood fans check in **** Spoilers ****
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 09:38 AM by LynneSin
Well it looks like Lafayette has a second chance at life (unlike the books where I heard he was zapped).

The whole Maryann thing has me intrigued. Someone said she is a Maenard (sp?) but still not sure what that is or why she wants Tara and Egg to have sex. I don't know much about these creatures of the night especially the Maenard - well except that she loves watching other people have sex, their clawing is like that of a Komodo Dragon (but you can survive - looks like Daphne has something to do with this) and they eat alot of fresh fruit.

Looks like Hoyt finally has a girlfriend although technically won't Jessica be jailbait for the rest of her life she she'll never be over the age of 17? I loved how they showed her craving that big old neck artery but she went for the True Blood instead.

Oh Jason looks like he's falling for the preacher's wife but I'm guessing the preacher might be interested in Jason too.

I suppose if was was turned into a Vampire I'd say around the ages of 29-35 - those were really great years for me!

4. It is looking interesting!
The previews for next week with Eric outside Lafayette’s window creeped me out good! I am glad Lafayette got to hang on for a few more episodes.

Yes, Maryann is supposed to be a worshipper of Dionysus (this from another post). Thus the drinking, eating and sex. I think she wants to use sex magik and that is why she wants Tara and Egg together.

I am so glad Hoyt found someone, even if it is Jessica (though she was very sweet with him). They really looked good together. I am considering getting the books, the suspense and ambiguity of magical characters is starting to get to me.

The preacher and his wife are so well cast! I think you are right, there is something sexual going on, and considering that it is Jason, well it would be surprising if it weren’t sexual.

7. I'm thinking Hoyt was originally dinner
I think Jessica was feeling bad and she had the taste of human blood thanks to her time with Eric and his nest of vampires. I mean when they showed that artery pumping I thought Hoyt was a gonner.

But I doubt that Jessica ever had anyone who showered such affections on her. Seems like her human lifetime was spent being repressed by parents who smothered with rules and abuse. When Jessica realized that Hoyt was very genuine with his affections towards her she managed to restrain herself and ordered a True Blood. Personally I think Bill will be a very old-fashioned father who will insist on Hoyt courting Jessica properly before any hankypanky happens.

Of course what will Jessica do while Bill and Sookie head to Dallas.

12. The end of those show last night just said that next week you could watch the first 3 episodes again
And that they would return on the 12th. I'm guessing they opted not to waste an episode on the Fourth of July weekend. But from what I read True Blood is getting great ratings for a cable TV show. To me TB is a vampire story for grownups as oppose to Twilight, which caters to the teenage crowd.

13. Twilight was crap.
My movie friend wanted to see it, so we went. Vampires don’t play baseball! The sugar coated, good vampires vs. bad vampires was superficial crap. Now True Blood is much deeper and sympathetic to the nature of what we traditionally think of the undead.

So I just ordered the book series from Amazon! I read as seaglass pointed out that the TV series deviates from the books, so they really won’t be spoilers so much, but more of an adjunct.

14. Yes but we weren't really the target audience for the Twilight Vampires
Even the books were geared towards "Young Adults" which pretty much means anything from a tweener to about 20 tops.

I mean I saw the movie but only because I promised my 13year old niece I'd take her to see the movie. I thought the movie was cute but didn't enjoy it as much as I do True Blood.

As for Vampires playing baseball I think the whole scene was to showoff their superhuman strength. It was interesting how they used thunderstorms to hide what they were doing (they were hitting the ball so hard that the noise was almost like a sonic boom but could be disguised as thunder).

16. They must have been using special bats too.
Regular equipment just wasn’t made to stand out to that kind of force. I get the age thing. I also get the romance of vampires. My friend enjoyed Twilight and she is in her 60s. I am more of a purist when it comes to vampire lore.

I read through the Twilight books because everyone I knew was reading them. They were good for the LULZ, but not much else. The story was just very shallow to me, as was the character development (what development there was other than "Edward was Gorgeous, Edward was like an Adonis Edward was like a Greek God" etc. etc. etc.)

11. Love True Blood - I'm reading the books - no spoilers. All I'll
say is that the books are very different from the HBO series, so I'm getting a double dose - great stories/characters from both - though the HBO writing I think is better. :-)

15. I haven't read the books but the plotlines that were on Wiki
and I think HBO took some liberties because of the popularity of certain characters. Lafayette was suppose to be the body they found in the car (and since Lafayette was gay and a bit kinky, it wouldn't be strange that he would have red-painted toenails.) But I'm guessing since Lafayette was pretty popular on the show they felt it was best to keep him around so they put that voodoo woman in the car instead.

I just ordered the complete series off of Ebay so I plan on reading them but I do expect that they would vary much from the TV Show. I mean I've read "Sex and the City" the book and really only a few tidbits of the book actually made the TV show and most of those were exhausted in the first 2-3 episodes of the TV show.

21. I figured it was Maryann
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 11:21 AM by LynneSin
My impression was that Maenads were more female than male. And obviously she didn't want Tara moving out of her house and in with Sookie because some reason or another she wants Egg and Tara to have sex.

But then again if Egg is a Maenad then perhaps she wants to use Tara for her uterus so she can breed more Maenads. You find some girl with extremely low self-esteem (which was pretty obvious with Tara) she might be willing to breed some funky beast.

And the irony of it is that her potential suiter's name is Egg.

40. it also makes sense, as far as an attack on sookie is concerned...
because she's the one that tara wants to move in with- so it follows that maryann would want her out of the picture.

but- was the minator looking specifically for sookie, or did she just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time..?

23. Things I loved about last night's episode --
The Jessica and Hoyt hook-up was meant to be - she got such postive reinforement from Hoyt -- it was probably the first from a man in her entire life. There is something wonderfully sweet about the two of them together. That was a really nice touch at the end when Bill & Sookie show up - here we were expecting the worst, and it was just two crazy kids making out in the front room and getting caught by "Dad"! :D

I also loved that totally wierd doctor that worked on Sookie -- she was a total trip! I loved her "fuck off" as she walked out the door. I hope we get to see more of her.

Lafayette and his granny-square blankie -- never has a man been so damn happy to be home safe and sound. I loved his line about having three jobs and still no health insurance -- Alan Ball never misses a chance to use his series for some good, liberal social commentary.

Poor Pam -- nothing worse than fucking up your favorite pumps -- and I loved how Eric made special point of acknowledging to her they had been nice. Pam is one of my favorite secondary characters -- big attitude -- loved her "Can I kick him?" line last night.

I hope that Andy puts together the pig he saw at Maryann's and the story Tara told at the station house (Paul Bunyan pig) -- he must, otherwise they wouldn't have shown him making that discovery.

I am glad Tara finally took a good look around herself -- if having your honey hit on by a "massage therapist" in a hot tub doesn't make you run as fast you can, nothing will. Doubt Maryann wil let her off that easily though -- Tara owes her big time -- and the payment may be more than Tara wants to give.

As for the pracher and his wife -- why am I getting the feeling that they are a tag team? She reels the boys in and then passes them off to dear hubby? Or maybe they share?? In the preview, it appears someone is engaging in a bit of vampire sex games with poor Jason.

Sam, Sam, Sam. Poor Sam. The guy just can't seem to catch a break. I loved his midnight run with his "brother" -- the actor really works the relatiomship with that dog. :D From the previews, it appears Daphne tells Sam she knows what he is -- who (or what) Daphne is and what she wants with Sam, I have no idea. I wonder if the Bull Beast Thing is a Maryann minion that "turns" people somehow -- Daphne showed up around the same time Maryann made herself known to Sam. I wonder if Maryann is using Daphne to get what she wants from Sam.

As for all that fruit -- all I can think of is the incredible anount of fiber they are taking in! I am a vegetarian, and if I indulged in that much fruit daily -- man, it wouldn' be pretty. :D

Can't wait for more episodes!

30. I can't wait to see what happens with Jessica & Hoyt
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 12:29 PM by LynneSin
And Bill is such a prude in someways he'll make Hoyt court her like this is the civil war era (while he continues to have hot sex with Sookie).

You know someone commented last week about Sam being the dog but I pointed out that there were times that Sam and the the dog (the collie) were in the same scene together. I think he said he needs to see the animal in order to shapeshift and uses the collie because of it's beloved nature with humans.

Ironically when Sam was younger he used the Beagle, which allowed him to sneak in and out of homes thru their pet doors.

25. It was a great episode last night but I'm pissed I have to wait two weeks!
I'm glad to see Hoyt hook up with Jessica. Hoyt reminds me of myself, so it's nice to see him finally get a girl. I remember last season he wanted to hook up with a vampire girl after seeing vampire/human marriages becoming legal on tv.

Obviously, the thing that attacked Sookie was MaryAnne. I'm going to guess that why she attacked Sookie is because Sookie asked Tara to move in with her. Or maybe there's another reason... That doctor that treated Sookie was a riot. I liked her. I like how she told Eric to fuck off as she was walking out the door.

I'm glad they still didn't kill off Lafayette. I like him. I hope to see a lot more of him this season. From the previews after last night's episode, it looks like Eric isn't through with him yet...

It's obvious Jason is falling for Sarah. I'm still unsure as to why Sarah and Steve have such great interest in Jason...

Poor Sam. The man can never catch a break. Looks like Daphne may try to do something sinister with him...

26. Of course, the series doesn’t have to follow the mythology but…
Dionysus was of the Minoan religion. Maenads are too. But it doesn’t say that maenads can turn into Minotaurs. However, Maryann could have sent the Minotaur after Sookie, which would make sense.

Some are saying Sarah is reeling Jason in for her hubby. With Alan Ball's political leanings, that would make be a funny and possible twist.

I like Sam too. I ordered the books today, I just don't want to wait two weeks.

39. Yes but like I said - Twilight is geared towards a completely different crowd
Twilight and the series will make a shitload of money because it taps into the High School/Young adult crowd. And with the Harry Potter series soon coming to an end, this will take over as the new big yearly blockbuster geared towards the High School/Young Adult crowd. And knowing the original movie took in just shy of $200mil, I would hardly call it a 'dog on their hands'.

What's funny is that I could see Twilight being made as a TV Show instead of a movie but only for the Disney Channel or CW Network. However, I don't think that True Blood would be as successful as a Movie. I mean they could make the first book and it would have some limited success but it would probably lose it's appeal with the sequels. But making it as TV show I think I could see this series going for about 6-7 years.
