2. I think The Byrds always nailed Dylan....
The Byrds Play Dylan is a compilation album by American rock band The Byrds, and was first released in 1980 by Columbia Records. The album features thirteen interpretations of Bob Dylan songs from their entire career, regardless of line-up. The recordings contained within range from 1965 with "Mr. Tambourine Man" to 1970's "Positively 4th Street". The Byrds Play Dylan never charted in either the U.S. or the UK.

In 2002, the album was remastered and expanded to twenty tracks. All of the material on both releases of The Byrds Play Dylan was previously released, either on The Byrds' regular albums, as bonus tracks on their remastered CDs, or on The Byrds, the 1990 boxed set.

5. I gotta say "meh" to that one.
I've always preferred the original Dylan to Byrds covers, though I like their originals OK. To me, the definitive Mr. Tambourine Man will always be Dylan's version(s).

8. I can understand that...
perhaps the Byrds just make Dylan more accessible to people...........

10. I'll certainly agree with that.
The Byrds had a fairly poppy sound, and their harmonies were practically flawless. Really accessible band, without the slickness or sugary qualities that all-too-often go along with the "pop" label.

15. yeah, nice harmonies and jangly guitars
but the rhythm is totally squared off, the tempo doesn't feel right for the song, and they left out a bunch of verses. It's certainly one of the better Dylan covers, but not better than Dylan.

11. I like the Byrds
they're one of my favorite groups. I played in a band many years ago that did a lot of Byrds songs; now days at home I play along with the Byrds recordings on bass, guitar, or 12-string (on my Ric 360/12)

29. Personally, I think..
"Mr. Tambourine Man" by the Byrds might be even better. It just fits their style very well.

7. Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower has got to be the most obvious answer.
Truth to tell, though, aside from that song and a couple other rare exceptions, I almost always prefer the Dylan original.

16. CLAPTON on "Love Minus Zero / No Limit" from BobFest...
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 12:32 PM by Amerigo Vespucci
...I STILL don't know why this got axed from the CD. Two excellent Clapton solos, one of his best vocals (when he sings "My love she's like some raven, at my window with a broken wing" and then goes into the solo it's cold chills time)...

...instead, the CD has his version of "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright," which is a real "so WHAT" event.

Here's the YouTube clip of Love Minus Zero: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iqxp-EGhSFc
