15. I'm sure his family and friends care.
Yeah, so he did annoying infomercials that I couldn't care less about, but no need to shit on the poor man's soon to be dug grave. Sheesh.

25. Then let me nuance it with "Who cares, other than family and friends, than sad people?"
I mean, really, for anyone who never knew him to somehow feel "empty" or be otherwise affected is pretty fucking sad.

He sold shit through adverts - that's it. Anyone (who didn't know him) who thinks he had some kind of impact on their life that they need to mourn his death is just fucking sad. Really.

Not to say he probably wasn't a great guy, good father, great family man, good businessman - fucking whatever - but come on. He sold shit. That's it. It's not like he was Cronkite or Michael Jackson or George Carlin or Ghandi or Ricardo Montelban...

He sold shit. How could that possibly have had any emotional effect on anyone, except that that person is... well, pretty fucking sad.

18. "Common peddler"
Elitist much? This is why the democrats get in trouble in the Midwest..because of attitudes like this . Like him or not, he was very good at what he did and I feel bad for anyone who loses a family member so suddenly.

28. Unless we get two more quickly. Actually one more, if you count Gale Storm.
For that matter, if you back to early June, you could say Carradine, McMahon, Farrah, and then MJ, Mays, and Storm.

Good thing about numerology is that with a little effort, you can make most theories work. :)

31. I was totally going to use "Gather ye rosebuds..." as a springboard into a genius Citizen Kane joke,
but then I realized that's Robert Herrick, and I already quoted him once today in the Lounge.

On the plus side, at least I'm finally putting my degree to good use.

29. Ha!! But to be fair...
he did a lot more than read scripts. He sought out the inventions he thought he could promote, created a marketing campaign for them, and helped more than a few small inventors get their start. He was a lot more than that voice.

32. to be perfectly honest,,,,,,,
I care more about Gale Storm dying than I do about Billy Mays, Michael Jackson, or Farrah Fawcett. Ms Storm was elderly, 96, but she was a big part of my childhood when television was new and fascinating. She also seemed squeaky clean in comparison to these other people. Behaps this was due to the times, the fifties, when the world was a little different than it is today.

Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 04:18 AM by BuelahWitch
so I never saw him. When you're close to 50 and people who are 50 seem to be dropping like flies, it makes you feel your mortality. The Grim Reaper could be gunning for 46 year olds next...

Edited because before it looked like I said I was a fairly young man. I'm not. I'm a cranky old woman. ;)
