DUers along I-40
We are traveling, primarily along I-40, from CA to WV. DUers along I-40, any construction, major detours, you know about in your area?

16. As do I.
Many trips to Ripley, Mississippi. There was a time in the 70s-80s when I think my car could make the trip all by itself.

And there was a stretch of road work from Little Rock to Memphis that I swear was there for 10 years! I'm happy to assume that it was finally completed, since no one has mentioned it on this thread.

6. I-40 in
AZ, NM, and TN all have major road construction going on right now. The biggest delays will probably be around Nashville and Knoxville. Fortunately they finally have I-40 opened back up in the middle of Knoxville but it is still kind of a PITA. You should be good to go in TX and OK. There is a little bit of construction but nothing major. Have a safe trip.

21. oops-responded to post above mine---oh well. anyway...a friend just got in to Albq tonight
Edited on Sun Jun-28-09 11:15 PM by abq e streeter
after driving all the way from North Carolina; just got off the phone with him, and I mentioned this thread....he said it was pretty smooth sailing, obviously some construction etc here and there , but overall he said there were no major problem areas. He did say the road in Oklahoma still sucks in places--poorly built and needs replacing with little ruts every 10 feet (as he put it) that shake your car around. I haven't been on 40 in OK in several years but remember the same thing...So there ya go, an update from someone who literally just got in from driving the same route ,at least from the east coast to Albq...

8. there's some construction in Albuquerque on I-40
occasionally will muck up traffic---not sure of a lot of specifics ( which is embarrassing because I live here) but might be worth your time to check with the New Mexico Dept. of Transportation. I know it was totally backed up about 10:30 last Thursday night ( we get a LOT of truck traffic on 40 at night), but don't know if there was an accident , or if it was all just from the construction.

9. I-40 through the Texas panhandle, a little bit of road work and then
west of OK City. Down to one lane in spots, but no major delays.
