12. Another example of the low teenage purchasing power.

Virtually every #2 was favored by people of my age over the #1's that were preferred by the "older" folks. The only (almost) exceptions to this were "The Battle of New Orleans" (which was good afternoon-in-the-basement "air guitar" mime material) and "Come Softly To Me" (which was popular at dances).

If us teenagers in the 50's had the pocket money of teenagers today, all those #2's would've been chart-toppers.

"Summer Place" was seen as a somewhat avant garde movie in those days as the repressions of the Eisenhower/McCarthy years was really wearing thin ... so the music was evocative to the early 20-somethings.
