Should I get a driver's license anyway?
Edited on Wed Jun-24-09 04:05 PM by Jkid
I have no interest in getting a car because where I live, I don't need a car (metrorail, metrobus, shopping within walking distance). Problem is that my mom and dad keep asking me the same question "when are you going to learn to drive?" "When are you going to get a driver's license". They keep asking me this question once every four months.

Should I bother learning how to drive and getting a drivers license even though I have no interest in getting a car?

By the way I'm 21 years old.

1. Yes to both.
Learn to drive, and get a license. What do you use for ID?

2. Maryland State ID
I mom helped get one before I went to UK for the first time in 2006. All states have an option of getting a State ID Card if you don't want a drivers license or just want an official form of identification.

9. And learn to drive a standard shift. I am surprised at the number of
people I know who can't.

3. Yes. Learn to do all things.
Some day you might be visiting another city and need a rental car or you might be a passenger in a friends' car, and they could have a medical emergency or just have too many drinks, and it will be up to you to handle the driving.

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.” - Robert Heinlein

“and drive a car.” - noamnety

6. Most places in America don't have the mass transit options you do.
You probably won't live there forever.

8. yes, learn and get a license
you never know when it will come in handy - such as having to flee from Republicans or other kinds of rampaging zombies - and may even want/need to rent a car some day. Plus it makes for cheap fun to compare bad license pictures with your friends.

11. heh - your parents may regret encouraging you if they are going to foot your insurance
but seriously - do it, can't hurt you to know how, really.
