Confess!!! What sappy love songs did your HS use for their Prom Themes
Edited on Wed Jun-24-09 12:54 PM by LynneSin
My high school hit the Holy Trifecta 3 years running with "If" by Bread, "Color My World" by Chicago and "Sail Away" by Styx. I was too young to attend the "Stairway to Heaven" prom.

Mind you my HS was grades 7-12

19. Never went to my prom, but coincidentally, I graduated H.S. with the guy that wrote it
Bruce Fisher; wrote it with Billy Preston ,and they also co-wrote Will it Go Round in Circles and Nothin From Nothin. Also coincidentally, saw Cocker sing that 2 weeks ago.

2. They wanted to use "Endless Love," but parents protested it was from a rated R film.
So they switched it to "Up where we belong." Apparently the protesting parents watched Endless Love but not An Officer and a Gentleman.

3. Cocaine
No wait, that wasn't the sappy love song. I forget. There were a lot of good slow dance songs back in 81. You can't get a fucking DJ to play a slow dance anymore. It is all that techno-crap "hi-energy" shit.

22. That was the unofficial song of my senior year in HS.
These days my teenagers make huge fun of it. No wonder!

30. By today's standards, it is about as "naughty" as "Undercover Angel"
Which is to say, it isn't at all. They kept trying to ban it from dances but the band or DJ would always slip it in anyway. In college they tried to ban Monie Monie (or however the hell it is spelled) because everyone would yell "Hey!" "Hey WHAT!?!" "Get LAID GET FUCKED"

14. This was always my high school's love theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k_N2shMbqA

This may explain why my high school didn't have one teen pregnancy the entire time I was there--and we would have known if there was one, since the student body of the whole school never broke 325 the three years I was there.

21. I don't remember anything
except the fact that "Stairway To Heaven" was played every time. Grades 8-12. What I do remember is leaning against the wall wondering if I'd ever get asked to dance that wretched song.
