VIDEO: Joan QVC Rivers honors Ed McMahon's memory by calling Carson "nasty" and a "bastard"

MSNBC interviewed Joan Rivers about the sad passing of legendary entertainment figure Ed McMahon. Rivers had nothing but praise for McMahon, however when anchor Contessa Brewer brought up Rivers' falling out with McMahon compatriot Johnny Carson, Rivers tone changed dramatically as she berated Carson, calling him a "bastard" and a "nasty man."

1. You have to remember that she
wanted the TS chair. Instead, Leno got it.

She's never gotten over it, apparently.

3. She would know all about nasty.
I will never get over the hateful shit she said about Bowling for Soup at the Grammy awards. The guys showed up on the red carpet in powder blue tuxedos and she went off on them for it. It just so happens that the tux idea was created as a childhood dream, and they actually got to live out that dream. It was supposed to be cheesy. It was supposed to not be serious.

So, fuck her. She's not even that funny.

4. I can't help thinking about Psychology 101 and the term "projecting"
Edited on Wed Jun-24-09 10:55 AM by Amerigo Vespucci
Granted, psychology doesn't provide 100% of the answers 100% of the time, but in general, a person who walks around filled with bile and slamming other people for what they consider to be serious flaws in character is often lashing out at themselves and their own shortcomings. I think a reasonable case could be built for Joan projecting her inner crap onto a dead man who can't defend himself.

Joan didn't get the Tonight Show gig for one reason. She lacked the talent. I'm not saying that Leno did either, but he has long been acknowledged as a master politician when it comes to dealing with the NBC brass. Rivers, on the other hand, had the double whammy of not being a Carson-level star and probably looking like the kind of person who might call NBC executives "bastards" if they ever crossed her.

9. Actually, I have read several places over the years that Carson
is famous for being a prick, and for screwing people over especially people he feels superior to.

It's not just Joan.....

10. No, but the difference is that Joan chose to not take the high ground
I don't know that much about Carson the man versus Carson the TV star, but going public with her grievances might not be the best move. People in a position of power in the television industry don't seem to invite criticism of themselves or their peers, and they have the collective memory of an elephant.

12. I heard it live and was disgusted. Even if Johnny Carson was awful
to her it was crass for her to say it when she did.

15. Yeah, Carson could be a real bastard behind the scenes.
He was something of a narcissist, and a perfectionist. His on-camera persona was carefully cultivated, but he had a nasty mean streak he would show you if you disappointed him.

But, Joan should have taken the high road, and said nothing. Most people know how she feels about Carson. Just let it go.

11. We should not speak ill of the dead
That said, I guess I also have nothing to say about Joan River's humor or career.
