Do you ever hide "the good stuff"?

be it the good chocolates, the expensive beer (always hidden behind the decoy budweiser), or in my case...the good tequila.

My SO has the good chocolates hidden behind the big jar of rice in the event that her mom goes looking for a snack. I recently picked up a bottle of Cabo Wabo (umma goodness) and it has been hidden far from sight. Anyone wanting a margarita can use the Cuervo Silver.

Do you ever hide the good stuff? if so, what and where?

1. Not "hide" so much as store it in a different place.

Ever since I lived in the UK for a few years a while back, I have had a weakness for single malt scotches. They get quite pricey, and many are only available on this side of the pond now and again. So I don't drink them that often, nor do I have that much of them at any one time.

At the same time, I downsized my home not so long ago after I decided to retire at a ridiculously young age, so I no longer have an actual full-up bar. That being the case, I don't have that much space to store liquors and wines in a spot that is particularly convenient. So I keep the stuff that gets used, or that my friends drink, where it is convenient for me and for them to access. And I keep the other stuff in a place that isn't. The fact that this keeps my stash of single malts isolated and not subject to the depredations of my friends and relatives is merely incidental. "Lagniappe" as some people in Louisiana say. Really.

In any event, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

The book of John

On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.

When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine."

"Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied, "My time has not yet come."

His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."

Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.

Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.

Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."

They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine.

He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.

Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."







What the Bible does not mention is that this was not a miracle; the host was hiding the good wine in the water reservoir, and Jesus exposed him as a miserly fraud.

I know some of my friends are very lax in the care of a good knife. Like slicing a tomato on a china plate. I've accumulated enough knives so it's not like there aren't any knives to use.
