So who else got an iPhone today?
I didn't pre-order, nor did I know I could.

Not a shabby price, at $299... I'll likely terminate my other phones (HTC Touch pro/Fuze and a Tytn II/Tilt) and pay the cancellation fee and soak up the price; selling the device on ebay...

4. Unlimited rollover minutes isn't so bad...
I could talk a whole month, 24/7, and still have room to...

oops, I just proved my social life status...

AT&T's coverage has improved immensely; my HTC Touch Pro gets signal where it didn't in the past...

2. I don't think they added enough features in this model.
although ... been tossing the idea around anyway. Then again, I just started looking into Helio.... I might go that way. MUCH cheaper, with unlimited everything.

3. For those of us still using ancient devices
The iPhone 3Gs is a huge step up.

6. Mine's pretty ancient.
I'm only on my 2nd cellphone ... ever. :) I just know Apple. The difference between the 3G and the 3Gs is - meh. So I'm faced with: Buy the 3Gs and be satisfied with "meh" --- until the next release that blows it out of the freaking water while I'm still locked into a contract or.... Wait until the next more awesome release.

I am really thinking about going Helio though.... I can get a 500 min EVERYTHING plan for about what I pay now for 450 mins / no data / no texts. AND their nights and weekends start at 7pm. Just started looking at them today though - I'm going to spend some time researching before I jump ship (ATT).

34. I'm in the same boat as you.
I'm on only my second phone also, and will be getting the 3Gs as soon as I can (I work for a company where I can get a discount on service, but we're wait-listed until the supply opens up a bit).

Interesting. My contract with AT&T is up in November.

The iphone is really tempting. I used to not want one, now I kinda do.

Edit - a friend has the new Palm Pre and likes it a lot.

9. I went into their store in Santa Monica when I was there a couple years ago.
I liked the phones themselves, but they were new at the time.

Off to the site.

Loser.

10. The negative: no Rollovers...
Anyway - one of the owner's golden children has their service and has for a long time. We got talking about it - he loves them. They run off Sprint and T-Mobile towers. Virgin Mobile just bought them out - yet if you check Virgin's site the rates are much higher.

12. $65 unlimited everything is a pretty good deal.
The Ocean Two has a lot of nice features. I might have to go to one of the stores here just to see if I like the feel of the phone, etc.

$65 500 daytime minutes + unlimited everything else. ;)

My internet searches have determined that the Ocean2 is kinda big. But then ... so's the iPhone.

15. I really got used to the full keyboard with my blackjack.
I don't do a ton of texting, but if I have internet, e-mail and texting, the full keyboard would be nice. That is why I want to get my hands on a phone to see if I will like it.

The Blackjack was a good size and it was fairly light. But its keys sort of died. :P

Trouble is, reception was crap...

HTC and Nokia make phones with great reception quality...

Will be testing the iPhone shortly...

11. Palm Priaprism? No thank you...
Sprint stinks...

I was slow to adopt too... but the 3GS model is nice...

When you get to the upgrade period (check now, otherwise it's about ~3 months before the contract ends), you'd get a terrific discount... I opted for a second line; the net monthly cost isn't as bad as I first thought and I might nix the Fuze altogether...

Its not worth it yet to buy a new one. Apple likes to roll out the upgrades in baby steps.

16. Logical.
A small CPU boost and up to 32GB, and a better camera for what that's worth are not must-have features... not having an iphone before, I'm glad I waited and didn't go for the closeout on the last year model...

19. I'm updating my phone right now
I'll wait a few more upgrades before I think of buying a new phone.

I walked past an Apple store today and there was a line but it seemed sort of pointless since the store wasn't exactly standing room only.

(Dell/homebuilt/Gateway/Asus... mostly because of WINDOWS, if not cheap-butt hardware 'quality'...)

See, try to remember: Apple goes for quality. Not how many useless fiddle-faddle-features that can be shoved into something, regardless of consequences.

Just sayin'...

Oh shit, now I said what I hate when other people say "Just sayin'"... Now I see why other people say it...

Oh well. Swearing is a catharsis to the soul...

AT&T's been good to me, as had T-Mobile...

Sprint is pure evil...

Verizon's coverage was good, but they locked down all sorts of functionality... (AT&T has locked out tethering, but otherwise)

36. How bad? Try cancelling my service, when I needed it, for nonpayment of $0.00.
I had to go to Russia for two months, so I paid a lot in advance just to make sure my service would go uninterrupted. AT&T's software at the time interpreted two consecutive months of non-paymnent as defaulting on the contract, so even though I was $166.37 in the black with those assholes, they suspended my service and I missed a series of calls which would have told me my uncle died and I had four days to get back for the funeral. I never got any of those calls.

Forgive my bitter tone, as it's certainly not directed at you, but: FUCK AT&T.

I thought the screen on my original iPhone was pretty good, but the screen on the new ones is simply incredible. The clarity and sharpness is really terrific, and I usually don't notice crap like that.
