I have an odd question for Canadians/Canadian familiar people
My wife tells me that when she was living in Canada, a number of her friends would come to the US for college, taking out student loans to do so. After graduating, they would then return to Canada, leaving no forwarding and walking away from the loans.

She further said that since the Canadian and US credit bureaus are separate, this skipping out on a bill had no further effect on their lives.

Anyone know how common this is, if it is even a realistic scenario?
